It is a really good, fun album. Nothing mind-blowing at all, but it is a really good summer hip-hop(sort of) album. Some weak tracks, but I'd say about 2/3's of them are really strong.

I still don't understand why people are considering Gnarls Barkley to be hip-hop/r&B.

I just don't see the connection. I don't know what to call the music, but it's like listening to The Love Below by Andre 3000 (I know someone mentioned taking St. Elsewhere over Love Below, but I think they're extremely similar, though The Love Below has hip-hop elements in it).

I don't expect typical rap listeners to appreciate this album. I listen to Gnarls Barkley and I hear music. The lyrics are powerful. The beats are smooth and easy to vibe to. This is summer to me. Laying back, chilling, and just letting the music control the air. That's St. Elsewhere.

Yeah, I saw the "Crazy" video and liked it. I thought it was going to be a "Love Below"-ish album, but after doing research on them, I think i'll pass. I'm sure they would probably be a couple songs that i'll like but, it may be my best bet to get the album through other means.

They get labeled as "hip-hop" because it is the easiest way to categorize them. They aren't true hip-hop, but they are made up of two guys with hip-hop pasts, so they get lumped into the category. They take elements from a lot of different genres(hip-hop included) to make a pretty unique sound.

If you like St. Elsewhere then you'll probably like Cee-Lo's first CD, "Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections". It kind of confuses me how he blown up so big now but it's essentially the same sound as his first CD, only with a bigger name producer.

It's because of the single.

Cee-Lo was getting a lot of press when Closet Freak came out about four years ago on his first album.

I don't think his second album had a true single on it.

But, it's Crazy. Without Crazy people would have pushed Gnarls Barkley to the side and consider it an underground type album.

Maybe someone knows, but is "Crazy" a cover?

I heard a stripped down version of it on the radio a few months ago sung by a girl while I was vacationing in Belize.

I've never heard that version in the states.

That being said you have to have a certain understanding and appreciation for Cee-Lo. He's a different kind of artist. The album works because DJ DangerMouse is a different kind of producer. They both have a ridiculous sense of humor that either flies over your head or hits you smack across it.

If you like Crazy a lot you'll like this album. That's my opinion. That's not to say every song is like Crazy. But, if you understand how Crazy sounds and what it's saying (rather than just thinking of it as a mainstream track that's grabbing attention) then you'll vibe to this album and realize it deserves Grammy consideration.

I'd like to here some new Cee-Lo as well. Maybe a Goodie Mob reunion is in the works. A man can dream can't he.
