    Rent

This is a great, perhaps overlooked, movie. It's very heart-wrenching, and I can only speak for myself, but I definitely was pulling for everyone (except for Angel... he's just... too out there for me).

Anyone else see this movie, or perhaps on stage? (BTW, I know it was released last year, but I just discovered this movie)

God, how many movies did you watch tonight?

    Haven't seen this yet BTW.

Loved the movie, but I've seen the musical about 7 times, still so much better.

Sorry for not responding when I made this.

I had actually seen it a bit before I posted, a couple days, but I've been listening to the recording of the movie non-stop.

I hope at some point I can see Rent and Avenue Q on stage. In fact, I would LOVE to be part of a Broadway show at some point. Any musical at all, actually.

For those who've seen an incarnation of this, who's your favorite character?

I think I have to go with Mark.

I saw the movie about a month ago. I loved it. I saw the show a while back but it was the traveling cast. From what I hear, it's the entire original cast in the movie with the exception of Rosario Dawson. I hadn't heard the music in a while, and seeing the movie just reminded me how awesome it is.

You are correct, Rosario Dawson is the only non original Broadway production cast member. The movie allows them to do more than the musical did, but the musical has more charisma and heart to me.

I love Rent -- completely love it. I burnt out quickly on it, though, but sometimes I just throw the soundtracks on and it's great ****. And, actually Tracie Thoms wasn't in the Broadway production either.

Well, it's a musical, and a lot of people aren't the biggest fan of musicals. I think everyone should se this regrardless of they like musicals.

Any reason? Or just didn't rub you the right way?

I guess you could say that. I think extreme annoyance at the girls around me singing the songs added to not liking it as well. Just not my type of movie.

I think musicals are something you appreciate more as you get older. I used to hate them, but now I find most of them hilarious and pretty damn entertaining.

i think part of it is that they're not "cool" in conventional younger people terms, but as you get older you don't really care so you're more likely to actually watch and give one a shot than think "oh, a musical? that's lame"
