The receiver is a big part of the system.
I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 225. She's a few years old now but it still packs a wicked punch.

Hopefully you've got some good speakers to hook up to your new purchase...sounds like a good setup!

TY..HK are good quality..Actually, I don't have any speakers yet..Ned to save up for them, but the sound through my headphones is awesome, & I'm getting a better pair to hold me over till I get some speakers..

Harman Kardon AVR 340. HK sells it for $900, but I found it MUCH cheaper on another website. I don't recall exactly what I paid, but I think it was around $450.

I really like it. Excellent sound quality. I had a Sony before this (can't recall the model number) and the damn thing kicked the bucket. The sound quality on this one is much better though.

Your reciever is pretty sweet as well. I have Yamaha speakers and they're pretty nice as well.

Thank you..Its just funny, I told myself I wouldn't spend over 300.00 for a reciever, then spend 700.00 total..I saved 300.00, the same price I had on my prior reciever budget..

I checked the number of inputs on the HK & they are nearly identical to mine..Why are the watts so low? 55 for all 7 speakers? Is it loud?

No idea about the watts. It's plenty loud enough for me.

The next level receiver (410 or something like that) had more wattage, but it was too deep for my TV stand. I actually got that one first, but I had to return it because it didn't fit.

That one looks pretty sweet. I'm trying to do a little research and find a good quality at a killer price but I can definitely see myself waiting for a while. I think I'm going to check around for some nice speakers. What is a reasonable wattage for a receiver? Don't want to get something crappy. I want to get my folks one too but I think they're getting to that age that technology is more of a virus where they get irritated and cranky when it doesn't seem to work right for them. Need to make this another type of sticky or something.......

Depends on how many channels it has..55-100 watts is good per channel. Just don't focus on full power of the receiver but the MRS..& check the THD..Total harmonic distortion. Anything under 0.08 is good..

You really can't go wrong with any of the one's in this thread. Denon, Harman-Kardon, Yamaha and Onkyo all make great receivers. All of them are pretty high in terms of quality and sound.

Wattage isn't a huge issue IMO unless you have a gigantic room that needs to be filled with sound.
