Cable Internet...

This is in canada, dono if that makes a different, but thought i;d write this


anyways, ive had cable internet for like 7 years now and my one buddy has DSL, yet he can download everything soooo much faster than myself, for me, it takes weeks at a time to even download a tv show i missed, which is only like 700mb (smallville 100th episode)...

anyways, is there something i can do to speed this up... so many ppl i know with cable claim the same thing, and so many ppl i know with DSL can download stuff in only a few seconds (songs or wutnot)...

I have a 1.5 mbps cable line and im able to dl songs in about 4 seconds. I would have your cable company come out and check the line (if you havent already). Otherwise, I would switch to DSL if its available in your neighborhood, because that sounds like some crappy cable.

It takes WEEKS to download something? I have cable and its never taken over a few minutes to download anything. Songs download in a matter of seconds. There must be a problem somewhere.

Maybe he has dial-up? Seriously DSL is much slower then Cable when downloading big files. There has to be something wrong with it.

obviously i dont have dial up... im paying 39.99 a mth for internet, from my cable company, and this its cable... also, the cable hanging from one of my computers definately points to cable, and the fact that my cable company installed it...

no, i havent called them about this and the reason is cuz alotta ppl i know say the same thing... some dont, but many do

let me specify, it takes weeks when its on limewire or bit torrent...

when its direct feed, it's decent but ive never found direct link tv episodes

Still shouldn't be taking weeks to download, even if it is only those two programs.

yeah, i'm on cable and I dl'ed the Head Coach demo and at like 700 mb (or whatever) it only took like 20 minutes or something crazy....the OS download server kicked major ***

I'm on Verizon DSL and even though it's light years ahead of Dial up-which I had, it seems alot slower than Cable.

So I don't know what's up with your cable.

I've had both and cable's always faster. Something's wrong with your cable if what you say is true.

Bit torrent can take longer depending on the seeding.

Try an episode of desperate housewives or lost for a test. If direct D/L is faster then there's your answer.

yes, Jistic's right, bittorrent/sharing downloads can take a while, depending on the situation

Who is your provider? Rogers? I am on Shaw here and no way do I have those problems, call them and have it checked. That is what you are paying for.

no, im with the source cable (only company i can use--hamilton west mountain)

anyways, i dont think this thread needs to be closed, it;ll be ignored soon anyways, but no one is supporting illegal downloads, i just have a problem and was wondering if any others did also... but i see that im alone
