    Best Wireless Router?

    Hey guys,

What suggestions do you have for wireless routers? I'm looking for the best combination of speed/range/reliability and most importantly, security.

I was looking at the Linksys WRT54GS, but I don't know much about the whole topic.

    Thanks a lot!

That's probably the most popular router, it's the same one I have. I've had it for awhile, zero problems and my router and PC are on complete opposite sides of my house, with no signal loss.

What I like about the LinkSys is that when I have to go back and forth between router and directly linking my PC, it takes little time for the connection to re-route. The only hassle I had with my wireless LinkSys was the initial hook-up. They don't put the 800 customer service number on the box. You have to dig for it in the installation disk on a PDF file.

I would get a D-Link before Linksys. Saying that, I have a Linksys WRt54g and it works pretty well.

As far as security, are there any real differences?

No, they all pretty much use the same standards.

                      Re: Best Wireless Router?

After doing some research, I am actually going to buy Buffalo when I move to wireless G. They are price very well and apparently very high quality.

I have had Linksys Wireless B for several years. My units are fine and I used to always recommend linksys, but what I have been reading lately is they have been having quality issues. So I was going to go D-Link until I came across Buffalo and after reading up on the company, I am going to try em out.

the signal bounces in and out occasionaly, and sometimes the router doesn't work at all.

Okay, I just bought the WRT54G (I was supposed to get the WRT54GS, but they didnt have it).

First off, is there really much of a difference between the G and the GS?

And secondly....what setting of security should I put on it? There is WPA Personal, WPA Enterprise, WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Enterprise, RADIUS, and WEP when I access the control panel for the router.

Thanks guys...I don't know crap about this stuff.

i have the same router, and its great for the past two years. i do occasionally have to unplug and restart it sometimes to reboot it but thats the only issue. As as security i run a WEP a 24 charater one i believe. Anyone one of them is fine, just make sure you right down your password after its been coded, you have to hook up all your devices like a 360 and other computers and its a pain trying to look up your password again

When I'm setting the protection level through the control panel of the router, it doesn't let me connect to the internet. It would say "Failed to connect to network Tark"

I had to switch it from another computer back to unsecured and now I can access the internet fine.

                              Am I doing something wrong?
