    Bestbuy Rewards

the rate of return has changed to $5 certificate for each $250 you spend. Basically, RZ started at 5% ($5 for every $100) when it was first launched as a trial, dropped to 4% ($5 for every $125) when it was launched nationally, dropped again to 3.3% ($5 for every $150) and now cut to 2%.

This sucks if you ask me. I almost all my electronics, movies, and most games from here if not at Gamestop.

I haven't seen a cent from those blue and yellow bastards for the past year and a half...and this is when I was still actively shopping there. I've had so many problems with them that looking into it is not even worth the hassle, but that's even more pathetic that they're dropping it.

I rarely shop at Best Buy, don't have a reward zone card. Best Buy's prices are just too high for DVD's. For instance, I picked up "Eight Below", "The Omen" SE, and "The Hills Have Eyes" yesterday. At CC, all 3 were $40. At Best Buy, all 3 would have been $59. Easy choice for me. It's like that every week, all new releases are $13.99 usually at CC, where they are $16.99 at Best Buy.

        Isn't it free now though?

So it sucks for people who really took advantage and shopped there a lot. It's good for people who shop there casually since they now get the rewards for free.

I don't understand this move from a business standpoint. They were getting an extra $10 a year from loyal shoppers who paid for RewardZone (which probably added up quite nicely) and assurances that these customers would shop at BB before any other electronic retailer. Now, the loyal RewardZone shoppers have less incentive to shop there with the reduced rate and the casual shoppers have more incentive.

The problem is if the casual shoppers' loyalty were easily bought with coupons, they would have probably been a RewardZone member anyway.

You paid $13.99 for Omen at CC, I'm going there to buy that.

Where did I say that? I paid $17.99 for it.

EDIT - I meant to edit this and my browser closed and I forgot to come back..LOL

Let me clarify, most new release movies, as first run movies are $13.99 at CC on their first week out. The Omen was 17.99, Hills was 16.99 and if you bought them both on the same receipt, you got another $10 off. Making Hills basically 6.99. And Eight Below was 13.99.

Best Buy has Omen for 19.99, Hills for 16.99 and Eight Below for 19.99.

EXACTLY!! They have an absolutely terrible understanding of how to create brand loyalty. The people that they're turning off are the same big spenders that would rather go to Tweeter for expert advice and installation...or even more higher end options for all-in-one home theater solutions. For those familar with the 80/20 rule, you realize how flawed their approach is even in a high volume business.

I buy almost all my CD's and DVD's from BB. They have a good selection and plenty in stock. The CC by my house is half the size of the BB, and when I use to go in there they didnt have a good selection, or were flat out of the stuff I wanted. I never buy any major purchases at BB, only at a smaller local specialty store. I trust them for those products, not BB.

                  Re: Bestbuy Rewards

BB's CD prices are pretty much unbeatable as far as in-store prices go. The rewards thing is tricky because you can easily spend a few thousand in Best Buy on one item. So for an extra $10 you get a few hundred in free money(under the old system). For the non-big spenders it sucks. I buy a CD, DVD or video game every now and then, so the $250 for $5 free dollars is a little high. I am currently in my first year of the plan, I will break even buying a 360 but I don't plan to do another year because a new plasma isn't in my near future.

once this year's reward membership of mine runs out, I probably won't renew unless I buy something that will return me the membership dues immediatley.

It's a great move and I expected it sooner. Now they'll get most everyone to sign-up...meaning their opt-in list for mailers, e-mails, etc. will get even bigger. They're hoping to draw more people in with specials, catalogs, etc. I think they'll do well with it.

                        Did you read the post?

Membership is now free...so if you buy anything and give your card points should be added and you won't have to pay anything for the membership.

I didn't see it in the first post... I didn't know it was free now. Well that's good. I have a free Regal Cinemas rewards card and it is the best thing reward card I have. All kinds of free stuff.
