The latest BS to emerge from the RIAA are cease-and-desist letters to Youtube users who have dared to put up videos of things such as themselves dancing to music they haven’t licensed. Clearly an insanity plea no longer covers the RIAA’s stupidity. From trying to orchestrate illegal takedowns in other countries a la The Pirate Bay to sending cease-and-desist letters to some poor user who has just recorded himself doing silly things to a song no one will even remember a week later.

Re: RIAA Sues YouTube Users
Wait....
It's not like the users are profiting from this. Hell, most people who do that look silly and get laughed at but that's it.

So Im sure that would include NCAA highlight videos that I have up on there. Thats pretty absurd... I make no money from it and 99/100 when I make a video, someone asks "who is that in the song" because they want to get it for themselves... its exposure for the band!Comment

Re: RIAA Sues YouTube Users
WTF? Maybe I'm confused, but what's the big deal here? As SPTO said, it's not like anyone is profiting from using these unlicensed songs. If anything, a popular video on YouTube will bolster the popularity of a given song.
To me, this would be like suing people for making a home video featuring their kid dancing to some song they didn't license. YouTube is essentially the same thing, but it's just a means of distribution.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: RIAA Sues YouTube Users
does the RIAA control video copyrights too? or just music?
i have some stuff i wanted to share with a friend. and it has gained some great exposure and due to me, it seems to have made some sales... sometimes its as simple as, we're doing YOU a favor. most people dont think that a song is being used as a disserviceComment
