What should I get? Where should I look?

I look at some today at Staples, but I really didn't know what I was looking for.

buy an external enclosure ($30), buy a huge HDD (200 gig roughly $80). Huge external HDD, ~$110.

These are just examples. But very easy and MUCH cheaper than buying an external hard drive unit.

When it comes to external equipment, if you're only going to be using it with one peripheral, you just want to get one piece (ie the external HDD instead of internal HDD & external case). If you plan to swap things in and out of the external case, then it might be worth it, otherwise, get 1 piece of hardware.

I've had an 80 gig western digital passport for about a year and I love it. Never had a single problem at all, just plug right into a USB port and it's ready to go. Fairly small as well so you can take it anywhere. It's about 130 for the 80GB, they also have 40, 60 and 100GB.

I'm in the market to get an external between 300-500 GB. Read lots of reviews and Seagate seems to have the edge over WD. Anyone have any grips with a particular brand, if so what? Anyone have any outstanding experiences with their external, if so what kind and size?
