    M. Knight Shyamalan = The Modern Day Hitchcock

I cracked up when I saw that comparison. IMO Shyamalan is highly over-rated. I'll give him credit for The Sixth Sense because that was an amazing movie. Almost nobody saw the major twist at the end of the film coming.

Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village were snooze fests. I'll rent Lady in the Water when it comes out to DVD but I'm not going to see it at the theatre.

Well. The Sixth Sense is very Hitchcockian. Slow pace, dialogue based, creepy and unsettling vibe layered over almost every scene....Shyamalan's movies feel very old. Watch a movie like Vertigo and you'll see how similar Shyamalan's style is.

However, Hitchcock's movies never felt stale. I mean, they never felt like you were watching a Hitchcock movie, if that makes sense. M Night's movies are way too similarly paced, plotted, and themed to be compared with one of the all-time great directors who made movies that spanned all different themes and subject matters.

Lady in the Water looks really interesting. But again, it looks so similar to the rest of his work that I'm reserving judgement. I really liked the Sixth Sense, but when I saw Unbreakable I felt like I was watching the Sixth Sense II.
    Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

The sixth sense was overrated but Signs was great.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Can't stand Shyamalan. Fell asleep during Sixth Sense, disappointed by both Unbreakable and Signs, won't watch the Village.

I can see the comparison, especially considering that he is the only person of current fame who can even begin to be compared to Hitchcock. However this is a real shell of a comparison, because M. Knight has nothing on the master. This is like the Patrick Ewing/Bill Russell comparisons, in that it makes sense because no one else is close, but it really is a big reach of a comparison.
