Poser & Bryce
I'm looking into these two programs and was wondering if anyone had messed around with either of these two. Those that have.....what are your thoughts and comments about them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.Tags: None -
Re: Poser & Bryce
I've never used Bryce, but I used to mess around with Poser a little bit. It's actually quite a bit of fun creating 3D models and so forth. I may get back into it sometime soon... who knows. Its been around 5-6 years ago since I started using Poser I think. It's pretty easy to pick up and learn. You should be fine at it since you're good with PS and such.
As far as Bryce, I'm not sure. It was always too expensive for me, lol.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: Poser & Bryce
Yea Poser looks pretty fun. There are some amazing things being created with both programs. Bryce 5.5 is actually only about $90. And Poser 6 is around $150 or so. I was very suprised at the prices of both programs.Originally posted by WTFI've never used Bryce, but I used to mess around with Poser a little bit. Re: Poser & Bryce
Poser is fun but the 'real' 3D art community hate it, want to outlaw it and have no time for it in any of their top forums.
But if you just want to use the Poser models etc, just grab Daz 3D Studio which is free and fast becoming most of what Poser does, yet at even quicker render times.
Bryce is good but if you want 3D environments, have a look at Eon's Vue. I got a free version of an older release of an old PC mag and the new demo is great. It even supports importing of Poser files and animations.Comment

Re: Poser & Bryce
Like Admiral said, these programs are pretty much hated by the hardcore 3D community. I suppose it all depends on what you're looking to use them for. Both programs are considered to be "copouts" by the experts as the user really isn't modeling anything him or herself, rather using premade models and messing around with them. If you're serious about getting into 3D, I'd say you should look into 3D Studio Max. There are plenty of tutorials online for it. If you're just looking to mess around though, I suppose Poser and Bryce aren't too bad. If you didn't know already, Poser is used for figure manipulation/animation, while Bryce is used for environments. I've actually started using Poser again recently, because I find it to be a good reference tool for drawing characters, especially in complicated poses. The newest Poser, Poser 6 I believe, is pretty good as far as the included character models are concerned. Admiral mentioned DAZ3D before. They're well known for their uber-detailed models, but I've found that the proportions seem to be kinda funky, especially around the shoulder area. They just look sort of unnatural to me, but that's just my opinion. I've been using the included Poser 6 models instead. I've used Bryce in the past, and it's pretty fun to play around with, but like I said, all of this depends on what you're looking to do.Comment

Re: Poser & Bryce
Thanks alot NYG....It's mainly just to fool around with it and get my feet wet with these programs so when (and if) I go to graphics arts school to get my master's I'm not the only idiot in there that hasn't messed with 3d rendering programs. I messed with bryce 5.5 last night, its pretty neat but the landscapes are alot tougher than I thought. They almost look too 3d and not real enough. But thats obviously cause I really don't know how to use the program much plus don't have that great of textures and everything. I've seen some amazing works with all the programs.
Heres a fancy (sarcasm) abstract thingamajig I made last night: its in a wallpaper format but not worthy of posting since its looks very amatureish (sp).

Anyways thanks alot for the input guys
, much appreciated!

Looks cool but the texturing is kinda wonky. What'd you do for it? (In case you don't know, a texture is the 2D image placed over the 3D model, its "skin")Originally posted by garnettrules21Thanks alot NYG....It's mainly just to fool around with it and get my feet wet with these programs so when (and if) I go to graphics arts school to get my master's I'm not the only idiot in there that hasn't messed with 3d rendering programs. Re: Poser & Bryce
Yea the texture looks bad, you can see where it ends and what not. I'm using the pre-set textures & bump maps on there and don't care for them at all. Hopefully I'll be finding some good custom textures soon but can't really find many websites that have any real usefuls ones.Originally posted by NYG_MethLooks cool but the texturing is kinda wonky. Bryce comes loaded with a bunch of textures. Try using those, they're pretty good.Originally posted by garnettrules21Yea the texture looks bad, you can see where it ends and what not. Re: Poser & Bryce
Got around to messing with daz studio and Admiral, you were right, that program is pretty nice and quick. The amount of things you can do is endless. I need to download some more content cause the only thing on there right now is the fairy & forest (not my cup of tea). But it was good to have something to practice with. Heres what I made last night, its in 1024 but too gay to post it as a wallpaper.

Re: Poser & Bryce
Last update with my progress with daz, doubt anyone really cares that much, just thought I would show this "God of War" like wallpaper preview.
