Buffy, Angel, Felicity and Dawson Return to The WB

The network says goodbye with a special one night airing of some of their most iconic shows.

June 30, 2006 - In a nice nod to their history, The WB will go off the air on September 17th on a final night of broadcasting that will feature special rebroadcasts of some of their most beloved and iconic shows. The WB normally airs five hours on Sunday nights beginning at 5:00 pm -- a slot they would use to re-air some of their popular shows leading up to prime time -- and they will use all five hours for this special night of late '90's retro viewing.

The night is made up of the airing of the pilot episodes to four of the WB's most popular series through the years: Felicity at 5:00 pm, Angel at 6:00 pm, the original two-hour broadcast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer at 7:00 pm and Dawson's Creek at 9:00 pm.

According to Variety, the decision of which series to spotlight in this swan song for The WB was made easier by leaving out series like 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls and Smallville, all of which will be continuing on the upcoming WB/UPN merged network, The CW.

Buffy's inclusion is a bit interesting; while quite appropriate given how much of a signature show it was for The WB, it's hard to forget that the series moved from The WB to UPN in its final two seasons, after a rather bitter dispute between Buffy producer 20th Century Fox Television and The WB occurred thanks to 20th asking for a notably large increase in their fee to air the series. Clearly, however, with the network going away and Buffy itself a few years off the air, a special agreement was made to allow this one last airing for the beloved show on the network that spawned it.

The night will also include many old WB promos and commercials, and a tribute reel featuring the actors who starred on the network through the years.

Wonder if it'll be in HD.

So what exactly is happening to WB and UPN?

Are they going to be one channel only? Or is there going to be a UPN and CW?

If only one channel, what happens to that other major national channel? It's dropped completely from television?

UPN and WB are combining into CW. It will be one channel. Yes, there will be one less channel on your television.

I might tune in for Dawson's Creek and Felicity.

I recorded Season 1 of Dawson's Creek on VHS but I can't find the tapes. The show had a lot of buzz before it debuted. Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams have gone on to pretty good careers while Joshua Jackson and James Van Der Beek have disappeared.

I'm tempted to buy all 4 seasons of Felicity on DVD. I watched most of Season 1 but then I lost interest.

*shrugs* I really couldn't careless about what people think about me or the shows I watch. Dawson's Creek is one of my favorite TV shows of all-time if not my all-time favorite. Hell, I have every episode of the series on my computer so... flame away.

most shows pilot episodes suck. its not until the middle or end that there really good.

they should do classics and have a 2-3 minute warming up/montage type thing
