    PC Gaming Upgrade Question

I am thinking of upgrading my PC (AMD 64 2800+, 6800 128 vanilla, 1gig) to a PCI Express Motherboard and 7600gt 256 video card. I have two questions:

    1) The 6800 vanilla has only 128 of memory but a 256 bit interface. Will going to the 7600gt with the 7 series tech, faster core and memory speed, 256 memory but 128 bit interface be a good improvement?

    2) I save some money buy buying a socket 7 mobo but then my processor upgrade options are limited (I think 3400 is the highest it can go). How long will a 64 2800+ processor last me? Will the video card make more of a difference?

    Thanks.

    Re: PC Gaming Upgrade Question

    1. Probably. The 6800 is only a midrange card now.

    2. Video card is more important, but a 2800+ is kind of low. Why not get the 3400+ now? Should only be a difference of around $100.

The 2800+/Geforce 6800 will be choppy if you play certain games with high detail. You can imagine what it will be like in a year from now.

Oh wait, I just reread your post.

Upgrading your video card would give you a more noticeable improvement. If it were me, your current PC would probably be good enough for me for now. Unless you're having lots of performance problems, I would wait until the next generation of video cards comes out.
