New USA show Psyche on Fridays
Anyone see this premier Friday after Monk? I think this is one of my new favorite shows. It's great for a Friday night too because the lead guy is pretty funny and the show is pretty lighthearted while at the same time pretty smart. Great for kicking back and drinking a beer while watching this guy solve cases.
Basically it's a show about a cop who had a son and brought him up to be super-attentive to all the details around him ala Columbo. Well the kid grows up and doesn't become a cop like his dad wanted him to but instead has gone from odd job to odd job because he's basically a goofball. Well in the course of trying to help the police on a case he has no way of explaining his powers of super-attentiveness aka detective ability so he pretends to be psychic as they think he's a suspect in a robbery. So after he helps them solve that case they ask him if he'll help on another for $$$$ and since he needs the cash he does and that's what the show is about.
Anyways, if you like Monk you'll probably like this as they are similar in some ways (ie this guy notices details like Monk) but different enough in the characters that they don't cannibalize one another. I think this could be a great show if they can keep coming up with these cases. I'm pretty impressed with the first ep, the only thing is when he does his psychic visions he hams it up a bit too much is all (something critics noted too).
