Computer HD question

my sister wants to transfer some of the files from her old towers HD to her laptop. She'll be traveling over 3000 miles here and doesnt want to take the tower...

Could she just bring her HardDrive and I can open up my tower and plug it in the slot and get the info off?

If thats the case, there may be a problem. My HP has two HD's already. one is the C master drive and the D drive is a HP recovery... Could I unplug the recovery Harddrive and plug in my sisters?

I'm trying to see if this'll work before its too late

Sure that HP Recovery drive isn't just a partition of the Master? From the HPs that I have seen, the Recovery drive has always just been a partition.

Yes, it's not a second hard drive, just a partition. And yes, you could definitely browse files from the second hard drive if you plug it in. Should be as easy as adding it to a slot on the IDE cable and setting the jumpers for slave.

damn i feel stupid.. those bastards took 6 gb for recovery.. yet they give me an option for recovery dvd's and such.

thanks guys.. ive opened the tower before. i shouldve known that HDDs dont come in 6GB.

I told her to travel with the whole tower before all this, so i wanted to make sure she had the right stuff before traveling

Just an extra option - Staples now and CompUSA sell hard drive enclosures that turn IDE hard drives into USB ones that windows can see easily. I think they run about 40 bucks or so. It's useful for making those drives portable.
