    Best Online Encyclopedia

    What do you guys use?

Wikipedia seems pretty good but I never usually try others. Thanks

Unless you have studied in both countries, I would stick to your University answer. I doubt you have spent so little as one day in an American College.

It would depend on the American University being discussed as for the usefullness on wiki.

And Wiki can seriously backfire on you if someone goes in and adds completely false information about something, and you use it as a fact.

You do realize that anyone can just go on Wiki and add whatever they like.

Actually, if you're doing a paper that requires say 10 sources, the teacher might tell you that you can use maybe 1 or 2 non-academic sources, but the rest would have to be academic ones and scholarly journals and what-not. I'd be shocked if anywhere in the world an instructor would let you write a paper using only Wiki. That'd be laughable.

Yeah, I had high school classes that didn't even let us use Wiki. I prefer to stay away from it because, while it does have it's merits, you can never be sure that what you are getting is fact.

That's exactly why I asked about this.

                        That response still holds true.

                        Absolutely.

Use what you like bottom line, or whatever sources your professor allows. Hows that for an answer.

One would have to sign in and when you make changes, youre IP address is logged and it shows your recent changes.... giving you the chance to review what was changed... dozens if not hundreds or thousands proofread and research the changes.. 2-3 bad changes and youre IP is banned.

its as accurate as anything else out there imo. but gets a bad rep

The policy must've changed before I added some info/fixed someone's info on the Marvin Gaye page at wiki. I didn't have to sign up but rather just did everythng anonymously.

I find wiki to be interesting and informative but one should always have multiple sources to back up what you're trying to say.
