Locke has harnassed the power of the island like few have, but it makes me wonder why Rose has been absent, she defeated cancer as well.

I still want to know why all the others sat around while Locke beat up Mikhail. Was it because Ben didn't react? Is Ben in charge of the ageless Doctor? He looked a little shocked at what was transpiring.

Where did the little kid Ben get the code for the electric force field? Was that from his dad?
But Ben didn't start walking until Locke came to camp. Maybe by just being around Locke can give you more healing power?

I think the others sat around while Locke went Mike Tyson on Mikhael has more to do with their dislike for the man and maybe because they're tiring of Ben themselves. I think Richard was telling the truth that Ben is trying to make Locke look bad so he seems more powerful. And because they were all led to believe that Ben was born on the island (which is something that might be impossible - making the Hostiles believe he's some kind of saviour figure), they might see him as a higher power. But the minute Ben got cancer, and everyone found out about it, as well as the paralysis, they might be questioning his position among them. Perhaps he isn't the saviour they all thought he was?

This will have been the 2nd time (maybe 3rd if you count the alter scene with Lockes dad) that Ben has used Locke to his advantage to make himself seem more powerful.

Notice how desperate Ben is at the end of the episode to find out what Jacob said to Locke. Jacob's words are Ben's method of controlling his people - that and the belief that he was born on the island and is their true leader. I think a lot of what Locke said to Ben at the end of the episode is true. That he is a fraud and that he is pathetic. But he relies on his connection with Jacob to control the Others and he has lost that connection.
The only thing is though when they first walk into the shack Ben appears to have a conversation with Jacob (when Locke calls him out for being a phony or whatever, for talking to an empty chair). So Ben appears to be able to hear him just fine, then it switches and only Locke can hear Jacob and not Ben.

Also, there is no way Locke is going to die from that gunshot wound.

I thought the same thing at first too. But now I believe that Jacob isn't even talking to Ben anymore and Ben made up that whole conversation.
If there's one thing we should all know about Ben is that he's a master manipulator and an incredible liar. He painted that scene the way he wanted John to see it.

And I'm starting to think that Ben doesn't want any kind of electronics around Jacob because it gives him power, hence the strange occurances when Locke used his flashlight.

Alex (the girl who called Ben Dad) is supposed to be Rousseau's daughter, though, not Annie's.

I think that Ben did hear Jacob speaking to him but Jacob has the power to let his voice be heard to who he wants to. Thus, only Locke could hear him say "Hlp Me". This pissed off Ben because he thinks Jacob believes Locke is the true "special one" to lead the island.

Maybe Jacob is a spirit and needs Locke's body, that's why Ben shot him.

I can't really decide whether or not I liked this episode. It's pretty much either one of the better ones LOST has had or one of the worst, but I'm not sure which. My biggest enjoyment from this show was the fact that it was supposed to be realistic with perhaps some things being borderline scientific. This episode pretty much forces some supernatural elements (at least as of now, without the explanation) which turns me off a bit to the show. I just don't like the supernatural stuff because it seems like it wouldn't take much thought to cleverly explain something that is not based in reality. The whole Jacob thing pisses me off, and until there's an explanation, this show has lost a point in my book... but it still really is the best show on TV.

Also, Locke is not dead. I think the whole main plot revolves around him moreso than any other main character, and his story won't end until the show does. Too many people would stop watching if Locke got killed off (I'm not necessarily one of them) for them to actually do it just for shock value.

                A little tidbit I found:

So I did a quick wiki on Jacob (from the Old Testament).

Jacob was a gentle man who "lived in tents"
Jacob was married to Rachel (if you didn't know, the daughter of the founder of the Hanso Foundation is named Rachel).

Jacob and Rachel had a baby. The name of the baby was Benjamin ("Son of My Pain").

Rachel died while giving birth to Benjamin.

                Freaky.

sorry if this has already been posted, but did anyone notice the connection between Ben's mom dying while having Ben and the experiments the others were doing on the island?

Also, why was Ben's dad in the pit, but the Lostites found him in the Van? Didn't they show Ben's dad in his uniform in the pit? Or did I just miss that whole thing?

I think you missed it. Ben said to leave him in the van.

Interesting, although as of now we're told that Roger is Ben's father. There could be a connection though.

Not really sure where he got the code. As soon as they got on the island and were watching the orientation video, as the camera went away, you could still hear the audio and they were talking about how the code changes daily or something like that. I'm sure somebody that still has it recorded could go back and see exactly what it says.

I assumed he got it from his dad. The code does change daily, but I'm pretty sure his dad would have the latest one.

I was under the assumption that no one from Dharma was supposed to leave the area because of the hostiles so not sure why his dad, the janitor, would have such an important code.
