Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I wonder how they are going to explain all these people being connected prior to the crash and ending up the plane together if the act that brought them to the island was an act of Desmond missing pressing the button on time by accident?
Seems like they ended up on the island because of Desmond's accident, but everything points to them being "brought" there for a reason.
Perhaps there is a more "real" reason as to why they are all there, and if there is, I'm sure we will find out what it is.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I thought they said the fact that they all had these connections were a medifore and that there wasn't a direct reason for it. Rather, it was just sort of this idea that "what if Locke and Sawyer didn't share the same father, would they have both ended up on the plane?" In a sense, the fact that Desmond was responsible for the plane crashing only adds to this, since him and Jack had met before, and Desmond's reason for meeting Jack (the race around the world) was what led him to be trapped on the island.
Perhaps there is a more "real" reason as to why they are all there, and if there is, I'm sure we will find out what it is.
What if one of the Others has the same power as Desmond and foresaw the button not being pushed and Oceanic 815 crashing on the island. Would Ben and the Others then go about making sure all the necessary characters were on that plane?Comment

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I guess that's possible, but based on what we've seen so far, I don't think you can really say that's true. I think it's the "fate" or "destiny" or whatever you want to call it side of the show, and that's how they all got on the plane, and how they are all connected in some way. However, I think the on-island things are less fate (Dharma, the Others' experimenting, etc...) and more purposeful - although I would exclude some things such as the smoke, cause I still have no idea how that can be explained rationally.Listen to some of my covers:

If that's true, then it sucks. They made such a big deal out of those numbers for a while, that if they discard them it makes a lot of the episodes in season 2 a waste.Comment

I mean they even went as far as having the numbers engraved on the radio station.Comment

This is why I'm skeptical that the writers haven't changed story lines. The numbers were everywhere in the first season and a half. Lotto numbers, seat numbers on the plane, numbers on the hatch, in the computer. For the numbers to have no meaning now, is not only a waste of time, but rather insulting.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Yeah, pretty much. I don't even really count it as most everything from that season has either been done away with, or evolved so much that it's not even close to what they started with. The only things I even care about from Season 2 are Ben and Desmond.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
The producers have confirmed that the Numbers were more a nostalgia type of thing. A large easter egg to drop in here and there into the story to show how things can relate even when they don't. Much like how the characters have been around each other before, but were never aware of it. The only reason their relationships matter is because they are on an Island together.
I honestly don't see how Season Two was about the Numbers. It was about Desmond, discovering the hatch, faith vs. science, speaking to the Others, and Walt being taken. Those events triggered what we have in Season Three.
I'd bet that after Season Four people will feel that Season Three was a waste because it only setup the events of Season Four."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
another reason season two felt like a waste was because they introduced us to a whole bunch of new characters from the tail section who no one cared too much about other than Mr Eko. And now theyre all dead except for Bernard, the flight attendant lady and those kids.Comment
