iTunes has slowly drained my wallet

I've had my iPod and iTunes since the end of July of last year. I figured nothing much would change and I'd still download music for free off of a P2P service or the net, but that hasn't been the case. I knew I had bought quite a few songs from iTunes, but I had no idea it was around 650. After you take away the Digital Booklets, videos, free songs, and savings from buying a full CD instead of individual tracks, I think I've spent around $600 on music downloads in one year. It just doesnt seem like you're spending that much when you download a $.99 song here or there, but boy does it add up

How many songs have you guys got off of iTunes?

I began to have this problem. I signed up for Napster and got about 10 songs in a week. I saw then that it would quickly add up. I have opened it about 3 times in the past 10 months after my original run with it. These sites are very nice to have, but they sneak up on you, as you have found out

It is still a lot cheaper than buying every CD you like one song off of!

I thought that was only if you paid their monthly rate for "unlimited" music? I did the 99 cents per song thing.

Yeah, if you are paying per song it is yours to keep.

I've probably bought about 200 songs off Napster.

I just buy CD's. I usually buy CD's for cheaper than .99 a song and I always listen to every song. And I like the security of having a hard copy back-up. When I was in college and worked at the radio station there I got tons of stuff for free. I'm gonna miss that...

I try not to pay for downloads if I dont have to. Then again, its on my parents credit card anyway.

Just checked my "Purchased" playlist, and it appears that I've bought 285 songs in almost two years of using iTunes. Based on the 11239 songs I have in my entire library -- which is currently raising because I'm adding a lot of stuff as I type this -- that comes to about 2.5%.

Holy **** BGarrett. That is an insane number of songs.

How many do you actually listen to?

A good number of them, actually. Only about 90% of those are my music though, the other 10% being some of my fiance's stuff. Whenever I'm at the computer doing anything -- watching TV, wandering around the net, playing PS2 -- I've got iTunes on shuffle, which means I have a good chance of hearing just about anything in the entire library at any given time.

Given an average four minutes per song, you can listen nonstop for just over a month and not repeat a song. Thats pretty cool actually.

I cant even make it a day.

I've downloaded about 2-3 songs off of iTunes. I really don't download music much.

damn that's a lot of money.
