The problem is that crap like this and all those rag sheets at supermarket counters are treated as "news". I still marvel that people care about this **** enough to shell out subscriptions and that it takes away from real news...like Presidential signing statements and the Middle East burning *again*!

I have to disagree. Magazines like US Weekly and People are mostly based on celebs/gossip. I don't know anybody that thinks of these types of magazines as news magazines.

I get a chuckle from people that say who gives a **** about this, this isn't worthy of even being mentioned, nobody cares, etc..... and they themselves took a few seconds/minutes of their time to go into the thread and post a reply.

Look at how many replies and views this thead has recieved in a short period. The title isn't misleading either, it clearly states Lance Bass: I'm Gay. It's obvious people are interested to a certain degree in this topic or you wouldn't be reading this right now.

We live in a society that is interested in what "celebs/famous people" do outside of their main job(s). Just look at how much discussion.coverage there was (not specifically on OS) around Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes baby, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston breaking up, Michael Vick being Ron Mexico, etc....

Heck if American Idol was on right now, I bet you a 1hr behind the scenes American Idol program would get better ratings than a 1hr show on the current Isreal/Lebanon war.

While I begrudgingly agree, I still find the practice wholeheartedly shameful. Just look at the checkstands. You see Us Weekly, People, a bunch of crappy chick mags (Cosmo, etc) and the tabloids. You'll be lucky to find any "real" news mags like Time or Newsweek up front, if at all! I won't even mention the wall of magazines at the chain bookstores...four racks of home and garden, two for fashion, one for sports and tech, and half of one for news.

I digress. Enjoy the gay boy "band" story. I can't stand this crap.
