I always put my Mac and PC's in sleep mode. Now with lightning Season in full force here in SW Florida I turn them off.

Won't electric bills skyrocket when it's on for long periods of time?

I turn mine off if I leave the house or when I'm about to go to bed.

That's another thing to consider especially since my one of my gaming rigs sports a 550 watt power supply, not good for the electric bill.

At Home - I always turn my laptop off at night, but sometimes turn my desktop off.

At Work - I haven't turned my test machine, laptop or desktop off in 2 years. I've rebooted all of them, but they haven't been turned off.

Re: Do you turn your CPU off at night?

I put mine on sleep mode when I'm done using for the night, unless I'm DLing something.

The sound of the fan annoys me when I'm sleeping.

And I don't think leaving it on makes the electric bill that much higher, I don't think PC's use that much electricity. It's not like a TV.

I haven't turned it off for about a week. I won't be able to turn it back on if I do.

It is actually better to leave it on. It's more wear and tear on the CPU turning it on and off all the time. I read this a while back and only re-boot mine if it's acting weird.

Used to leave it on when I was in college but I own a house now and in the summer, in Texas, electric bills are high. We just got one in the mail for $253--and that's just for my wife & I, no kids.

As far as wear & tear by turning on & off, I've heard that too but my mom still has our very first family computer that's over 8 years old and has been turned off every night and it still runs like a champ.

Only time I turn mine off is during the summer when having my TV and computer on at the same time makes my room feel like a sauna. Otherwise it is almost always on.

I turn it off every night before bed, why keep it on, and have a bigger ConEd bill.
