I'm afraid of this movie. I love Kinear and Correll, however I've heard people compare the style to The Royal Tenenbaums which I thought was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Is the style comparable? If I hated Tenenbaums will I hate/like/love this movie?
Just need a little clarification before I drop 20+ bucks for the little lady and me to see this. Thanks.Comment

I actually compared The Tenenbaums to Sunshine in my post but it's not nearly as dark/slow paced as the Tenebaums. Little Miss Sunshine is more upbeat and definitely a film that's worth the price of admission. I personally feel it's in the mold of the Tenenbaums because of the off-beat humor. I'm sure you'll like it, people with all different tastes have enjoyed, I'm surprised it wasn't more of a mainstream hit.Comment

This movie is more depressing than Tenebaums, but the humor is less off-beat. LMS is a downer for the majority of the movie, but there are some real laughs that anybody would enjoy. With Royal Tenebaums it is a completely different style of humor, it only appeals to people with the right sense of humor.
It is a DRAM-edy for sure, mostly drama with some laughs thrown in.Comment

Just saw the movie last night on DVD, and really liked it-outstanding performances throughout-Carell was great.Greg Kinear should have most definitely recieved a Golden Globe nom over Johhny Depp and Will Ferrel. The little girl was awesome.Comment

Great movie, I thought the performances were amazing. Carrell has impressed me so much, i was afraid he would be 1 dimensional actor but I can see that he has tremdous depth and could do some amazing stuff in the future.

I was disappointed in this film after reading all the glowing reviews. I found Richard and Dwayne to be really annoying. I know this film isn't a straight comedy but I only laughed 2 or 3 times. Alan Arkin's performance was nothing special yet he was nominated for an Oscar.
On the positive side, Abigail Breslin was a scene stealer. What a charming little girl. She has a bright future ahead of her. Steve Carell proved he could handle a serious role.
The DVD has a couple of different endings. With the lack of special features, I have no doubt a double dip is coming.

IMO this was the best movie of the year for 2006, no question. Maybe I liked it so much cuz I have a dysfunctional family like this so it seemed to apply to me particularly but I'll tell you, that scene where that little girl cried, I nearly cried too, and I'm a man damnit, i don't cry at movies, LOL!
