Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
Is there any way I could clean it without taking it apart? It's not reading my MVP 05, MVP 04, or DVD's don't load or install. I'm guessing the laser has to be cleaned, anything I could do that doesn't involve taking it apart?Celtics-Red Sox-Patriots

Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
You can always buy one of those laser lens cleaner. But I doubt they work as well as actually opening up your computer and blowing all the dust away.
Another possibility is that your drive is dead. Is your computer pretty old? -

Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
3 years is fairly old for a PC unless you've been upgrading parts.
All I can say is, if you dont hear it running (put ur ear close to it after you put in a cd) then its most likely dead. If you dont hear the CD actually being spun, its definately a dead drive. If you do hear it, and yet its not being recognize then the lens maybe dirty.Comment

Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
I just put in MVP 04, Tiger Woods 99, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and Madden 04. And they all worked. It can't be the CD because the game works at all of my friends house. I looked to see if it was still installed on my cpu and I don't see it anywhere. Any one have any ideas on what could be going on? Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
Thats crazy. I really dont know what to tell you. CDs not scratched, yet it doesnt work, but does work at other PCs. I think your cd/pc is haunted!
To be more specific does it give you any errors?
Do this:
Right-click your My Computer the click on properties.
Then goto the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager
When this opens up, do you see a yellow icon with an exclamation point?Comment

Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
Ok one more thing I found.. Try this before you do the steps above.
1) Run the autofix tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
2) Uninstall/reboot/reinstall Nero
3) Remove the drive from Device Manager, shutdown, disconnect the drive and any other device (assuming this is the secondary channel) from the IDE cable. After booting back up, shutdown again (this gives Windows a chance to see that the IDE channel is empty). Reconnect the drive and turn on the PC. Go back into Device Manager and the properties for the IDE channel. Verify that it's using DMA under the Advanced Settings tab.

Re: Cleaning my CPU's D: Drive
None of them things worked. This is stupid. Is there anyway that it didn't fully uninstall from my cpu? I looked every where and don't see any folders or files from last time
Edit: I did the event viewer thing and found about 10 errors for my cd-rom but what do I do after that?Celtics-Red Sox-Patriots
