TIVO/DVR questions and a little help needed

Fellas,

I am getting an HDTV tomorrow and a new DVR recorder. I don't want to lose all that I have on my tivo that I am using now (UT games, boxing, etc.). My questions are the following:

is there anyway I can transfer what I have on my old tivo to my new one?

If not, is my only option to transfer my old tivo material to a VHS through a VCR hookup?

Lastly, is there a way where I can just keep the old tivo as a supplement to my new one where I just have it as a stand alone where I don't do any future recording on it but have access to all my old recordings? Or would I have to continue to pay a TIVO monthly service for my old TIVO to keep my old recordings?

Do you have a home network and Tivo Desktop? If it's a true Tivo (ie. not a DirecTV box), you should be able to transfer your recordings to your PC over your home network. It requires software version 7.1 on the Tivo or later and Tivo Desktop on your PC.

You may not be able to transfer the recordings back to the new DVR, but they'll be saved on your PC. Burn DVD's or just store them.

Your Tivo will not work unless you are paying the service fee.

Let me know how things go. The TivoToGo feature is what sold me on Tivo a couple of years ago.

Tivo ToGo is pretty sweet. It is really simple to setup too. If you check the Tivo website there is a pretty simple guide on how to set this up.

Yes, but it is a lot of work and will void any warrranty and possibliy DirecTV could find out and end your service. You have to take the harddrive out or use another one and format it and load some programs on it. If you have a spare harddrive you could give it a try.

Thanks, but what sounds as if it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond my technical expertise, or better said my lack thereof.
