    Movie ticket prices

I was just reading an article about this weekend's box office numbers and read this quote:

Hollywood's on a roll. Last year at this time it was all gloom and doom. Eighteen of the past 20 weekends have been up over last year. This is a terrific summer," Dergarabedian said.
Personally, I would like to go to more movies but part of the reason I don't make more of an effort to go is ticket prices. I don't understand how people can get so mad about gas prices skyrocketing yet be content paying $8.50-$9 for a movie. For my wife & I to go (which we usually go to a matinee) we drop at least $30 just for 2 tickets, 2 drinks and a snack or two. That is crazy!

Curious to see what everyone else thinks about movie prices. I think instead of these stupid gas boycotts everyone tries to start there should be a movie boycott. If millions of people didn't go to the movies for a weekend or two the movie companies would have to consider doing something.

I love movie prices where I live.

$6 per ticket and a $6 combo. Costs $18 for my fiance and I to go to a movie.

Much better than the $12.50 tickets, and extremely expensive food in Toronto.

I live in the US now. But, even with the exchange rate it's not even close to having to pay what I did in Toronto. And I don't have to sit through 15-20 minutes of ads, and then previews before the movie. Just a couple previews and the movie starts.

I pay $7.25 which is a lot better then the 14 bucks you usually pay. This is because I have a card that proves i'm vision impaired thus I get someone to go with me in case of an emergency.

Went to Talladega Nights today at 1:45... 14 bucks for tix (12 if not for Fandango) with a 5.75 popcorn. So that's 19.75 total. The thing that got me was the popcorn. That's where they hit you. I need to remember to start sneakin' snacks in.

BTW, it's great having my college ID.

Well gas is a bit more important and more of a necisity in everyday life than the cinema. So that's probably why.

That being said, I drop $20 on a pair of tickets for me and my girlfriend after 6 PM. Pretty ridiculous.

Movie companies don't set the prices for theaters.

Movie prices keep on going up because people are still willing to pay to see films in a theater. It's supply and demand.

I still wish Famous Players didn't change their price structure. It use to be cheaper to see films in the afternoon and on Tuesdays. Now it's just a flat rate regardless of the time or day. I think it's a little bit silly that a movie on Saturday night and Tuesday afternoon is the same price.

It costs me $11 to see a movie and I still watch a ton of films despite the high price. Most of the time, I feel like I didn't get my moneys worth, but I still continue to go. I guess you could say I'm a movie buff that likes to support the industry.

In terms of entertainment, watching a movie is still one of the cheapest options out there.

90% of the time I go to afternoon shows. 4 dollars for a ticket and like 6 bucks for a medium drink and popcorn.

Just be smart about. Goto a Matinee show (Less people is always a plus!)
Then instead of purchasing food at the theatre, just bring something in.

                    Matinee show - $6-7
                    Outside Snacks - $2-3

                    Total Show per Person. $10

Good to me! And Ive never had anyone check me or my gf for any food.

If I really must see a movie in the theater I will just use my metropass and take a short subway ride to the Rainbow Cinema (and no it is not a gay porn place) where it is $4.50 for a matinee. Sure there isn't stadium seating or a super massive screen (it is still very big), but it is a decent place and there usually aren't too many people in the matinees anyway.

What about popcorn? Nachos? Drinks? All that other stuff?

They almost encourage bringing outside food in.

At the theater closest to me, it's $5 to get in with a student ID. However, I still rarely go to movies.

Tickets here are $6.50 if you have your college ID, not too bad compared to some other places.
