what is the best bit rate for music?
I've actually heard that 128 AAC is better than 320. Is this true?Tags: None -
Re: what is the best bit rate for music?
I'm starting to go back and re-rip my CDs onto my PC and mp3 player with 128kbps. I can't really tell the difference between 192 and 128. Anyway, I thought 256kbps was the bitrate used to create an identical copy?

There are a number of lossless formats that are excellent, FLAC being one of them. But, because of space constrictions, I'm guessing you don't want all of your music in a lossless format.Originally posted by CM1847FLAC is the best, it is lossless.
If you're asking for just AAC format then, I have no problem encoding everything at 128. It's the equivilant of encoding an MP3 at 192, which is still a respectable bitrate.Comment

I don't mind converting only my favorite songs to that format.
Also, can these be put in IPOD?Last edited by Vince; 08-07-2006, 07:22 PM.Comment

The only lossless formats that iTunes and iPod support are WAV and Apple Lossless. Formats like SHN and FLAC aren't recognized.Originally posted by VinceI don't mind converting only my favorite songs to that format.
