As far as TV's are concerned, I didn't have the best one, but there will ALWAYS be some on your hall with a nicer and bigger TV. Count on it!

Dudes, I figure I'll post this here since more people are looking at this than the HDTV thread.

Found this refurbed' Phillips 30" widescreen HDTV for $387 and free shipping. Has anybody gotten one of these before and received a total POS? I'm moving into a new apartment next month and am responsible for bringing the TV. Basically, I don't want to buy something that is going to look like garbage and/or die on me after a couple months.
Would any of you guys buy this refurbed HDTV if you needed to stay on budget but would like an HDTV?

Anyway... my mom wants me to get a LCD which is completely stupid in my eyes... I'm fine with a 20-23 inch tube... which isn't that bad for the size of the room.

Thoughts about this?

I thought the appartment could be like the extention appartments I stayed in.

Whatever you get, I wouldn't spend a whole lot of money. You shouldn't be spending too much time watching TV. If you're playing games, an adapter for a monitor is the way to go.

I also think you should skip on the printer and go with the cpu lab. My school even charges 10 cents per page and I still don't care. That is much better than dealing with the p.o.s. lexmark printer I had...it was horrible. And I'm not even talking about the $30 color ink cartridges.

you're living in a dorm...which means do not bring anything nice. Go to Sam's club, pick up a 20-25 at the most for real cheap. and forget the LCD until you're done with college. Whether you think so or not, this TV will go through much wear and tear, and LCDs don't handle that so well.

I run both through a monitor. I think you can hook up the 360 to the laptop, but I don't know how you'd change it to input.

Find out if you can print for free in the computer lab. You'll waste so much money on ink and paper if you get your own printer. I know many colleges allow free printing so don't go wasting your money on a printer until you can confirm you even need one.

We bought TV's at garage sales because we were good for about 1 Sega Genesis controller through the screen per month. Damn NHL 92!!!

Most laptops have vga out only, but it's possible that an adapter could exist, or a model with both in/out capabilities. I did research it a little bit when I was testing it out with my own laptop with no success. Works great on my monitor though.
