hooking up 2 consoles to 1 hd input

Since i can't play WE9 with rosters on 360 ive decided to just move my xbox to my hdtv. I only have two HD outputs and have the cable box on one. The 360s on the other one. I would be able to just switch the xbox 1 and 360 out but its too much of a hassel cuz both hd inputs are in the back of the tv and id have to turn it around every time. So, i can think of two possible solutions but don't know exactly what to buy or how much it would be?

    1) I'm not sure if they make these but if i had some kind of extension chord plugged into the back of the TV in the hd input and had access to it from the front of the TV i could switch back and forth easily. If they make anything can someone point it out to me. This would probably be the cheapest way.

    2) I could get a splitter/switcher so i could plug them both in and just switch back and forth wen i need to. I'm almost sure they make these but im not exactly sure what to buy and the price range so if someone could point me towards one of these itd be nice.

If anyone else has any other solutions please help me out.

A while back I saw a a/v switcher at gamestop. I think it was less than $30 and the only one i've seen that has component at a resonable price.

Can't you just hook up your xbox with s-video or regular cables? When I had my xbox hooked up, I could barely see the improvement component had over s-vid unless the game I was playing outputed 720p.

They make component splitters, some cost a lot some don't. I used to use a cheap $20 Madcatz component switcher until I got a new receiver that handles all my switching. You can buy more expensive ones that have less data loss, but it up to you and if you can actually tell. I'd recommend you just try to by a cheap component switcher and hook it up, if it looks just as good, there's a good solution. If not, take the switcher back and get your money back.

Unless your Xbox reference is actually a 360 I'm inclined to agree with Jabisco. Here are more expensive splitters.

The cheapest and simplest way would be just to get 3 RCA Y-adapters, with 2 female connectors, and 1 male. That way you could plug both the 360 and xbox into 1 set of component inputs simultaneously. They cost about 1.50 or so each.

The only drawback would be that only one console could be on at a time. There are switches too that aren't limited by this. Here's one example:

Right now, that one is going for 20 bucks. Hope this helps.

If i got the adapters and put them into "input 2" then plugged in both the xbox 1 and xbox 360 would the TV automatically pick up the platform that was turned on when i set it to input 2? What would happen if i turned both on?

If you turned both on, you'd probably get a ghosting effect, because both would be on simultaneously - you'd see some of both images, at least that's what I'd predict if both were standard sources (non-component). I'm not an expert.

Since there's no extra external logic at the TV end, there'd just be a mess on the screen. The TV can only see a signal at it's input 2 and that's all. If there's only a 360 signal it will see that. If there's only an Xbox signal, it'll see that. If both consoles are on, the TV will see both simultaneously.

I don't think it should cause any damage to the TV, although I wouldn't risk it (has to do with peak signal amplitudes adding to each other - superimposing - and exceeding the max limits for the TV input, possibly causing some damage).

If I had your dilemma, I'd choose this method first because there would be no way I'd turn both consoles at the same time, and it's cheap and dirty enough to work. If someone else uses your setup, maybe that situation (both consoles on simultaneously) might arise and the adaptor method may not be worth choosing, and you should go with a switch instead.

This is all just advice and recommendations. Go with what works best for you.

Ill probably just go with the first method but correct me if im wrong wouldn't i need 5 of those converters rather than 3 since i want to use my hd cables with the xbox 1 and the 360, and im almost sure theres 5 cables, not 3.

Where could i get the splitter cables?

Gamestop has a black one that looks just like this with three component(HD) hook-ups. Costs $19.99. They work wonderfully... go buy it, and your problems are solved.

Yeah, 5, because I forgot about left and right audio. Any electronics store has them, or even stores with an electronics department - like Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and probably Kmart. They are RCA y-adapters and should be located with all the cables and connectors.

Why is that? I play WE9 on my 360 with Watson's option file. You just need to use XSata.

I've used the 20 dollar Gamestop HD switcher for almost two years and have been pleased with it. There's some signal loss, but not enough to make me crawl my fat butt around behind the tv to switch it out each time I want to play the 360 or XBOX.

I already have the transfer kit so im not about to spend $60 on something i pretty much already have.

I know theres a very small drop in quality with the switcher, but is there any drop with the splitter cables?

There shouldn't be any loss - it's a short distance and just like adding an extension wire.

About the other issue - the transfer kit can't transfer saves from Xbox games to the 360, but the XSATA can.
