Radio DJ quits live on air...

    Folks,

Saw this on one of my radio geek websites. This is what it sounds like when you allow a disgruntled employee access to a live microphone.

WBLX, Mobile Weekend Jock Quits On-The-Air
CUMULUS Urban WBLX/MOBILE parttimer INETTA (THE MOOD SETTA) exited from the market-leading station. She actually quit, live, on-the-air SATURDAY 8/12. She had been working parttime for six years. No official word on her replacement yet.

That's pretty crazy. I just hope she doesn't drive her Land Rover into the ocean or run around in a speedo. Well, thong is alright...unless she's ugly.

If I ever resign from my current job, I'm bringing a boombox into my boss's office and playing some phat beats over top of my resignation speech.
      Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

Six dollars a day?! Are radio DJs really THAT underpaid?

BTW that whole resignation on the air thing sounds like a perfect setup for a modern day WKRP episode

I heard about this on O&A this morning...they played the clip of her quitting, and were ripping on her for doing it before the commercials and then not coming back with more rants.

Well i'm sure she wouldn't be able to anyways as she'd probably be kicked out of the studio ASAP after that stunt

It's 6 bucks an HOUR, not a DAY! LOL, jeez! What kind of slave wages are they paying up there in Canada?!?

Oh, and EG...it was real. Allaccess.com wouldn't have reported on it unless it was real. This isn't like wrestling, where everything is fake, lol.

Yeah...and it was pretty dumb of her to go ahead and play the commercials after she quit. That'd be like busting into your boss's office, telling him off, telling him you quit, then returning to your desk to finish up that database you were working on before you leave.

A lot of stuff in radio is a bit but this wasn't. I saw this story when it first hit on All Access (I think 1-2 days ago) as TJ mentioned. Didn't surprise me at all when I read the story.

As far as radio pay, it's horrible. I have a degree in broadcast comm./radio and while I work for a company who does a lot in radio I knew I wouldn't work at a station unless I wanted to live at poverty level almost. The problem is there are a ton of people waiting in line for their chance so the stations can get away with paying $6 an hour.

I worked for a nationally syndicated show for a short period of time (in addition to my normal day job) and I made $15 an hour to screen calls & run spots. It was very easy and I was making a lot more than other people I know in the industry who work a lot harder than I was.

Jeez that sounds rough. I think the radio business in Canada is slightly more lucrative if only because the market is much smaller. Of course that leads to a small number of radio hosts getting relatively huge contracts and the average joe blow radio announcer or staffer making very little.

Overall tho, I think it isn't nearly as bad north of the border.

Unless you're on in the morning or the afternoon drive, you're getting paid zippy and since that's a small market she was really getting whored

just about every board op and phone screener have another job from what I've heard

only way you're getting paid decently without being on-air talent is if you're a producer or assistant producer
