I don't know how one can say what is the greatest song ever written. My favorite song is Devil's Plaything by Danzig but I'm not naive enough to suggest its among the best ever written. I think the arrangement on Iron Maiden's Hallowed be thy Name is brilliant but again, best ever? I don't know.

And on the Stairway... bit, rock and roll musicians have been borrowing licks and rhythms from other songs since its creation, its not really a big deal. And I'm sure the amount that was lifted from past songs has been greatly exaggerrated.

Most of the best songs ever written in my opinion have already been posted, and I could throw a hundred Journey songs in here *cough*Still They Ride*cough*, but I'll just throw one in I really like.

Back to Good - Matchbox Twenty

Really good lyrics, and alot of the times its true but people don't admit it.

Bingo. Too bad they can't remember that song.

                  o.k.

If we all had to narrow the list to one or two songs at the most, which song(s) would you go with? For me the most outstanding song I have ever heard across all musical genres would have to be:

                  1. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. This is the most visionary well put together amazing song I have ever heard. These guys have opera, hard rock, soft rock, r&B, blues, you name it. I listen to it and always think, "who the hell thought of this record?" It almost makes me want to kill myself and I am a pretty much happy kind of guy. I have heard no record that matches that one, I mean any attempt at redoing it would be and should be laughed at.

I would give "Yesterday" by the beatles and "Stairway to heaven" by Led, a tie for second.

When I think of an all time great, it has to hit your mind and make you think about it, or makes you groove to it with an unforgettable melody, or both. It must me timeless. Stevie has many good ones, and is one of my favorite artists, give one from Stevie that you think is timeless.
I think "Living For The City" and "Don't You Worry About A Thing" are exceptional. Of course there's "Superstition" and "Higher Ground". I think his all time best is probaly "Sir Duke".
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

I just can't agree with the Bohemian Rhapsody selection. It's too silly, and a little gay (not that there's anything wrong with that.)
