Problem with New Orleans is a large percentage of the population has been living off the government since birth. They get comfortable in that.

Well, if you've ever seen Dallas S.W.A.T. on A&E, they took down a crack house in South Dallas. The dealers and everyone inside were all evacuees from N.O.

        And that proves what exactly?

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

No but if I want to know something then I will ask. Just because one crackhouse out of the thousands that are in dallas was full of evacuees that really doesn't mean much.

I been in New Orleans for 2.5 years and I have 6 months to go, then we're out of here and off to Fort Worth Texas for my wife's next duty station. As soon as I heard that many Katrina victims relocated to Houston, I called the rise in Houston's crime rate.

For anybody whose grown up here in NOLA, you know how bad the crimerate is down here. I haven't done the research but I'm willing to bet that New Orleans is top 3 for worse crime rate.

Part of the reason for that is that the police are probably the most corrupt in the country.

And I'm starting to wonder if discussing crime involving evacuees in other cities is supposed to somehow justify Katrina and how catastrophic it was. I could be wrong...hell, I hope I'm wrong but It just seems like some are trying desperately to say "Well, they got what they deserved" or "Katrina wasn't so bad when you consider the crime and poverty levels of the devestated areas" without going that far.

Houston's crime rate was higher than New Orleans pre-Katrina according to the FBI website.

If that's the case I hope I never find my way to Houston.

It was bound to rise anyway with so many people moving into one area.

The series is re-airing right now on HBO in it's entirety. It came on at 8:45 am and will be on until 1:00 pm PST.

I liked it, but Spike & others seemed to be saying, if the Majority of NO wasn't black this wouldn't have happened. If anything, poverty, lack of prevention & response, etc were possible factors..Either way. Help should have come much quicker..
