    The Apocalypse...postponed?

I remember last year with Katrina and Rita people freaking out that we were at the end of the world and these were signs that global warming or some other gloom and doom power was going to end the world.

So I was wondering. Are the end times taking a year off? So far there's been no devastating hurricanes, bird flu, or locust swarms. Is the Grim Reaper taking a vacation this year? Or is global warming taking a rest?

Well, the peak time for hurricane season hasn't come yet, so I don't want to "jinx" the fact that there havent been any major hurricanes yet....

Let's see what happens with Ernesto. Should be a gulf hurricane by Tue.

Global Warming is real and it is true that the earth is hotter now than it was in the past. However, we do not know if it is because of humans that this is happening. Mars is going through a very hot global warming stage, as well. This could simply be some cycle the Earth has that we cannot stop nor control. I try not to listen to scientists who try to predict what will happen to the Earth if we keep going. Nobody knows what will happen. It's hard to predict mother nature.

As the previous poster said global warming is real. There was a Newsweek cover story that stated the planet is hotter then it's ever been in the last 400 years.

Ernesto should have hurricane stength in the next day or two. Hopefully it isn't a major storm as people in the Gulf area are STILL trying to get over Katrina.

Also China has been hit with horrible monsoons and flooding all late spring and summer. So while that's not close to us it does show that there is some weird phenomena going on.

Hmm, then we forget that we're still climbing out of ice age.

Isn't the temperature supposed to be hotter than it was 400 years ago if 400 years ago Earth was still climbing out of an ice age?

              I don't think it's global warming, it's a cycle.

They're just trying to make people piss in their pants and make them buy all these products.

Last Ice Age started 70,000 years ago and ended 10,000 years ago. So I think we can safely say that we've long "climbed out" of the last one.

And 30 years ago we were going to have an Ice Age. The Earth is getting warmer, but it's been getting warmer and colder for the last few billion years.

I doubt it. Although the Mayans were a pretty amazing civilization, I would take every prediction with a grain of salt.

                            Sometimes the opposite happens.

The End of Times isn't going to tell us how it's going to happen.

It'll happen over time at it's pace.

You may never know...no crazy stuff this year may just be the same as holding in your anger.

You know what they say about holding in your anger. One day you'll just...
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
