    Speed of Computers

Can someone explain to me how fast this computer is? I am looking at one that has an AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor 4200+. Processor Speed is 2.2GHz and System Bus is 2000MHz. Just how fast is this computer and what exactly does the system bus speed mean?

    Thanks.

It operates at 2.2ghz, but the 4200 means it is equal or slightly better than a Pentium 4.2GHZ. System bus I believe, is the speed at which the CPU communicates with all the other devices inside the machine.

With a speed like this and RAM of 2GB how would this computer be with running software that is out today and that could be coming out in the near future? Is something like this adequate?

Yes, that CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM will run just about every application now and within the next few years just fine. For new games you'll need to make sure you have a nice video card. Get one of those and you'll be set for a good couple of years.

The same mostly. The 64 bit processors (excluding Intel's Quad Xeon in Macs) will run all apps and games the same as it was a normal Windows system (32 bit)

Most software for the PC will not hit 64 bit for a long time. Windows XP is already out in 64 bit technology, but programs like Photoshop, Word, or even games like World of Warcraft are not in 64 bit mode and probably won't be for a long time. Adobe has mentioned that they will not develop anything for 64 bit processors because not a lot people in the market have one. Though they said they will support the 64 bit screamers in the Mac Pros.

More so a couple of months. NVidia is releasing new cards every couple of months some of them valued at $2000. With Vista on the prowl, it's probably not a good idea to get a new video card now and wait to see what Vista supports. I know for a fact Vista does not support my GForce 7800.
