    The Roots -- Game Theory

Anyone interested in this album? I bought it today but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. It has been getting good reviews across the board.

On a side note, filed under "Way to go for the little guy". My local record shop, Vinyl Fever takes Best Buy/Circuit City gift cards and allows you to use the money at the store. PLUS I got a Black Thought Mix Tape(CD).

It is an excellent album. It is very serious, there isn't any lighthearted fun here, but it is a very good album. I love the Radiohead sample on "Atonement", you can hear Thom Yorke's vocals in the background.

It's good stuff as all Roots stuff is.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I was expecting much more. After hearing quite a few songs early from the album and ones that were left off, I was expecting more. Don't get me wrong the cd still has about 4-5 very good songs but the rest are kind of like ehh.

I wasn't feeling their last album, "The Tipping Point", but it sounds like this one is better. I'll pick it up later in the week.

Does anyone know if it's as good as 'Things Fall Apart'? Which I consider to be there best album.

I think it would be insulting to the group to compare one album to another. I think The Roots are artists in the truest sense. The only thing that remains the same on both albums is that ?uestlove is on the drums, Black Thought is on the mic, Hub is on the bass, etc...

There isn't much The Roots do that I don't like, so I might be bias, but I think it is a great album. 'Things Fall Apart' has more "radio" hits. 'Game Theory' is heavy but it also is their most honest album yet.

Everyone is going to have their own opinions of the record. The best way to find out if you like it is to experience it for yourself. If you like previous Roots material, you'll most likely dig this.

There is a good interivew with ? over at AVClub.com that offers some insight into the album and some of the bands label problems.

It is a cool album but some songs are kinda boring. Check out the new Method man if you wanna be surprised by a good album.

TFA is classic. I like "The Tipping Point" because it is completely against everythign they usually do in the studio. It is fun, loose and spontaneious. I don't see why that album is so hated.

I think Game Theory is below TFA and TTP, but it is as good as Phernology.

Got this today, along with Method Man, and I'm liking it a lot. Definitely better than Tipping Point, for me. I like these darker melodies.
