Re: BestBuy............"Big Deal"
That's made tight on the real. Honestly though, I think that I'll be waiting til next year to get into the real next-gen. I just got a 21" CRT for my gaming. That should hold me over until I get out of school. Keep hearing about HD gaming so I have to experience. Good looking out. Prices are becoming more and more affordable. Definitely love technology.Comment

Re: BestBuy............"Big Deal"
I have already upgraded all the TV's in the house. No non-HDTV's and no TV's with a tube in the house anymore. So this deal does me no good, but I am not real big on financing things like TV's and home electronics anyway.Comment

Re: BestBuy............"Big Deal"
it can work out for people who wanna use there bestbuy card, and get the TV they want and just pay it off with there tax money. At least they will know that the wont have to pay intrest for 3 years or until they get all the money or until tax time..Just a thought.N.Y Mets

No interest deals are a scam for the majority of people out there. The people who pay cash, or pay off no interest deals, are the ones who make out.Comment

Re: BestBuy............"Big Deal"
It is a good deal if people do that, which Best Buy doesn't want to happen. They extend it out very long like that, so in the end, Best Buy makes out. Interest is built up from the date of purchase, so at the 36 month mark, you have 36 months of interest added to whatever you owe. Since probably 90% of the people get that deal, and say "I have 3 years, I'll start paying in a few years" and then, never end up paying it off. Which turns around into Best Buy's favor. They are then going to be paying for 4-5 more years to pay off the TV, so the TV will be 8 years old when it's finally paid off.

Personally, I've never done one of these deals because I would rather pay it off the minute I buy it. I'm just that way. I never purchase anything if I don't have the money in hand (except a car or house obviously). If it's on my CC it's paid off every month (mainly used for convenience so as to not carry wads of cash around or checks).
The way I see it, you never know what will happen in life. Say someone does this and says "I'll pay it off 2 years from now after I get a bonus". Great, what happens if said person loses their job? What happens if said person has a health problem and has huge medical bills to now pay? What about something happening to their house that they need to spend money on? You just never know.
Example - My air conditioner failed about a month ago. I thought it would be a small $200 or so fix, but winds up I need a new unit as the compressor is toast. Now I'm out $2200 for a new unit that I wasn't planning on getting. Sometimes these things happen. It's just good to always have a stash of money saved away for when they do happen.
Ok, enough rambling for me.Comment

Re: BestBuy............"Big Deal"
I have no problem buying stuff like this on credit. I'm just at an age where I don't have a spare $2000 lying around to spend. Even if something bad were to happen, it's not like the extra $30 a month or so to pay off the TV would break the bank.Comment

Ehh, I'm not sure that's the smartest thing to do. Never rely on money that you don't yet have.

Who cares about no interest for 36 months. Why not just buy the TV with a one time payment.
I personally don't like buying items in which I have to make monthly payments for a few years. Too many unexpected things can happen in life.
I remember when I bought my cell phone 2 years ago, I had an option to get it for dirt cheap but I had to sign a 3 year contract. If I cancelled my contract, it would cost me $20 per month remaining (up to a set limit which I forget what it is) on the contract. I didn't want to lock myself in, so I paid a lot more for the phone upfront and I wasn't stuck in a contract. I have more peace of mind when I know I don't have all these bills to payl down the road.
Basically don't spend what you don't have.
I shake my head at all the stories I see about people being in debt because they put everything on their credit card.Last edited by VanCitySportsGuy; 09-08-2006, 01:41 PM.Comment
