What A way To Start The Weekend

Last night we went to the fair, which was just ehhhh. This morning I sleep in and I wake up to DirecTV offering me a package where I get all the premium channels, including the Sports Package for just $10 more a month for the next 4 months. Then on top of that they throw in NFL Sunday Ticket! My wife, not happy being woken up by the phone says just say no, but I pulled out my man card said "Ummm, yeah we are getting this!" So we ordered it, she was mad for 10 minutes but taking her to breakfast made her happy. So now I have this awesome package, NFL Sunday Ticket, and a boatload of movies to record on 2 DVRs, but my wife isn't angry at me for it.

    Wahoo!!!!!

Nice deal. Since you put that you own 2 DVR's I was wondering if you could help me out by answering a question for me. Is it hard to transfer files from a DVR to DVD recorder? I am getting my DVR set up today and was wondering how hard that was to pull off? Is your 2nd DVR a DVD Recorder or do you have 2 DVR's. Hopefully I am not confusing you, and thanks for any help you can give me.

Poster - I'm not sure about DirecTV DVR's, but the one's I have with my local cable company are a pain to transfer files (Motorola 6412). My biggest issue is that I don't have a firewire port on my laptop and I'm not bringing my computer from upstairs down to transfer the videos.

I'm also not sure what type of encryption, if any, there are on the videos. If there is encryption, it's going to be a pain.

With Tivo, it's very easy. I think they even have a program to help you transfer videos.

Whats up mjb2124, weird not saying joeboo. Thanks for the help. I have Dish Network and the installer said that it has a USB port so I think I can send it to a DVD recorder. He was pretty cool and said I could google it for some more info. I guess I am wondering for down the road. For example if I tape the whole upcoming season of Lost or 24, it will take up room on my DVR. I figured I could then send it to my PC or a DVD Recorder so that I can have it on DVD forever and then i could clear up space on my DVR. Is that what most people do?

What's up poster! Yeah I think that's what most people do. That's what I would do if I could figure out how to get the files off my DVR!

Mine has a USB port as well, but I think it's disabled. I need to do some more tests on it at another time.

Much depends on what DVR you have and what your provider enables/disables. I don't know enough about Dish Network to know if they allow for that or not (or if there are any ways to do it). Hopefully it works out for you.
