    John Mayer - Continuum

I'm really enjoying John Mayer's 3rd studio album. It's still too early for me to truly judge if it's better than Room For Squares or Heavier Things, although at this point I'm leaning towards saying Continuum is better than Heavier Things and Room For Squares.

He covers Jimi Hendrix's Bold As Love.

My favorite songs are In Repair, Stop The Train, Vultures, The Heart Of Life, Belief, and Waiting On The World To Change.

      Re: John Mayer - Continuum

I've only been able to listen to it once thus far, but I will say that I like it more upon first listen than I did the first time I played Heavier Things. Now, that bodes very well for the CD since HT has since become one of my top five albums of all-time. The studio versions of "Gravity" and "Vultures" more than do the live renditions on Try! justice -- which doesn't surprise me, since John has always been able to perfectly capture his live sound in the studio. "I Don't Trust Myself" and "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" are also two tracks that are VERY stellar. So far, I don't think there is a bad track on the CD, another Otaple of every album Johnny has released.

I had very high hopes for this CD, and I have to say, it looks like I'm not going to be disappointed by it. There's some very stiff competition for my studio album of the year right now, but I don't see Continuum not cracking at least the top three.

Oh, and for the record, Continuum is John's fourth studio album.

Are you sure it's the 4th studio album?

His store from his official website says it is his 3rd.

On CONTINUUM the singer/songwriter/guitar slinger meets that challenge head-on. Mayer's third studio album marks his first turn as producer.

Just saw him in concert last night and the new songs sound great, exactly the direction I hoped he'd go in. Live he sounded better than he did on the Heavier Things tour, and he sounded great then. I will definitely pick up the album tomorrow and judging by the new songs he played last night, I'm sure I will enjoy it.

I will say that it is good to see John is back on stage with the old band instead of the Trio. Well, with everyone except Chaves. There's just something more complete about John's sound when he is flanked by Dela, DRH and JJ. It's just the classic JM sound when they're around.

I've heard a few tracks, and from the few I've heard I'll be picking this one up. I really liked "I dont trust myself" and "Gravity".

And BG, I agree, its good to have the old band back together.

"I dont trust myself" is my favorite as well. I have played that song about 15 times since getting this late Saturday. What caught me off guard was reading how good this album was on a hip hop site I go to. I had to try it and im pleased.

I never really checked for Mayer's work. What do you guys think is the next best album, Heavier Things?

Is this album similar to his previous works or does his work in the Trio creep into it?

The album is definitely in the vein of John's new sound -- in other words, the Trio sound. But, while the record was recorded with Pino and Jordan as the support band, it still remains a Mayer album. The sound that is present on the album isn't one that has to be reproduced by the Trio in order to keep true to how it was recorded -- from what DeLa, DRH and JJ have been playing on tour, it has sounded exactly as it does on the album. Am I making any sense here? Seriously, I seem like I'm just rambling on incoherently. Ok, so, you now how "Gravity" and "Vultures" sounded on Try! that is exactly what John went for on Continuum, and he nailed it. That's about as simple as I can possibly put it. Yes, there are shades of Heavier Things ("The Heart of Life" and "In Repair" especially) and Room For Squares/Inside Wants Out ("Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" and "Dreaming With A Broken Heart") -- but it's those sounds on those specific songs, meshed with what was going on during the Trio tour. Got it?

I must say, this is a really good album, one of my favorites. I still like his Room for Squares/Heavier Things sound better more than his new sound he put on this album and with the Trio though. I really haven't found a song I haven't liked yet, and "Waiting On the World To Change" and "Stop This Train" are my favorites. Again, I like his old stuff better (Room for Squares is the best album I've ever listened to), and hopefully down the road he goes back to it, but the new sound still works and I like it. It's definitely one of the best new albums to come out this year.

It's really close, but personally I'd go with Room for Squares. Every song is awesome, and a good amount of my favorite songs from him, or anyone for that matter, come from Room for Squares (3x5, Great Indoors, New Deep, St. Patrick's Day, Why Georgia, City Love). Heavier Things isn't that far behind though.

I'm really enjoying this cd so far. I wasn't a huge fan of the whole JMT but I must say this seems like the perfect blend of the blues sounds from JMT mixed with the more pop sound from his earlier albums. Going back starting with Inside wants out through Room for Squares and Heavier Things, you can actually hear him progressing as an artist, which is something you don't see a lot anymore.

Gravity was one of the few songs I enjoyed out of the JMT project and I was glad to hear John nailed it on this cd. Also really like 'the heart of life' along with all the others mentioned before by you guys. Two thumbs way up on this cd

                            I'd rank them like this...

                            1) Heavier Things
                            2) Inside Wants Out
                            3) Continuum
                            4) Room For Squares (Aware release)
                            5) Room For Squares (Columbia release)

I'm liking the song Vultures a whole lot. I downloaded the song last night and I haven't stop listening to it.
