They did plenty of editing out the violence and sexual scenes from those cartoons. Especially the deaths of major characters. Macross kinda changed that, though.

Re: Voltron on DVD
I picked this up last week. The 5.1 surround remix really sounds outstanding - in fact, better than some movies. If you want a taste of your past, you won't be disappointed."We were expecting a miracle with Elite, but instead we got Jesus at halfcourt."

Re: Voltron on DVD
Yeah, Gatchaman was the original Japanese version. They have the entire series at BB, it is named Gatchaman (1-6 box sets I think). It sounds as though the original was really violent and quite intense! I am going to get them.Never mind found out.
Battle of the Planets was an adaption of an original Japanese cartoon - Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) Basically, to make it appeal more to Western audiences they removed lots of the violence inherent in Japanese cartoons, and translated and simplified the story to make Battle of the Planets. An even later remake saw the series renamed to G-Force.Comment

Re: Voltron on DVD
Yeah it was. But I heard the those are some what bootlegs. But I am still getting them along with Battle of the planets. I found out they made three Gatchaman, Battle of the Planets and G Force. Casey K. was the voice of Mark in BOTP lol. But Gatchaman was the best. I used to love to watch Ultraman too lol.Comment

Yeah, I think Kasey's voice brought the character of Mark to life. My favorite ones are when Mark throws that little boomarang sonic bird thing. And when they form that Pyramid, and when Mark does the whistle.Yeah it was. But I heard the those are some what bootlegs. But I am still getting them along with Battle of the planets. Ultraman!! Man I used to love watching that. I remember going to visit my cousins in Philly and watching that, and getting mad because they never broadcast it in NY. He used to get beat down by the baddest monsters Japan had. I remember that he had that light on his chest when he was really about to get killed. But another good one was the little kid that controlled Giant Robot. The robot had a pointy head and missiles that shot out of his fingers. He helped Godzilla (I think) fight some monster in one of those movies that used to come on at 4:00 in the afternoon. In NY it was called monster week. I really liked that one. He used to do a right L, left L, arms straight up, then fly.Comment
