I'm not sure exactly what I think of the album as a whole yet. It's definitely not as immediately accessible as Hot Fuss was. There are already some songs I really like on this one though ("When You Were Young", "Bones", "For Reasons Unknown", and "Sam's Town").

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
I've listened to this CD a couple times this week, it's pretty good. My favorite song by The Killers is Mr Brightside and unfortunately nothing on the new album beats that, but still an enjoyable album.

Honestly, i'm starting to like "When you were young" more than any of the songs on Hot Fuss, but I guess I wasnt really a huge fan of that disc. Really liking WYWY though. Catchy little ditty.Comment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
My first thoughts after listening to the album once is that they are more consistent with their songs then in Hot Fuss. And like CM1847 posted that some fans might not like it, because it's not as catchy as Hot Fuss, the songs are more in depth. A couple of songs that stand out are Uncle Jonny, Bones, My List. The Enterlude/Exitlude is also pretty good.Comment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
I'm still now thrilled with it, but I've been playing it alot.
It's at a love/hate stage right now.
I can't get some of the lyrics out of my (the chorus for When You Were Young for one, Bones etc.)
Maybe I shouldn't have rushed to judgement in declaring it garbage.
It's still no Hot Fuss though.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
I absolutely HATED Hot Fuss the first listen. Didn't listen to it for a few months. Around the time All These Things was released as a single I got back into listening to the album, and it is one of my favorite albums to listen to. Midnight Show is my favorite song on the album, love that energy.
The Rolling Stone review has me a little scared about the ablum, and I usually don't put too much weight in reviews. I guess I'll go pick it up tomorrow and hope for the best.Comment

Loved Hot Fuss. After one listen of Sams Town....Im kinda bummed out. Nothing really grabbed my attention. In the early polls, its not looking good for me...maybe headed for the box in the garage.Comment

So I was bummed out too when I first heard it... yet I've been listening to it non stop after work the past 2 days and I have to say, it's really growing on me. Truthfully, I think the first half of the album is tremendous and need to spend some more time with the last few songs, but it's growing on me quickly. Anyone experiencing the same thing?Comment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
I agree 100%. Nearly everything on Hot Fuss jumped out and kicked you in the teeth. There were just so many great tracks on the album. Sam's Town, on the other hand, was just very bland on the first listen. I honestly couldn't tell you one track on the album that even remotely captured my attention when I listened to it the other day.Comment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
If anybody is curious about the Rolling Stone review, it seems like they were dead on. Want proof that the Killers are trying to garner more of a heartland/Bruce Springsteen audience? The album name "Sam's Town" is sponsoring a NASCAR race in the very near future.
edit: to be clear, it's going to be something like the "Sam's Town 250"Last edited by sportsdude; 10-06-2006, 06:57 PM.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
An interview with Flowers I read a few months ago said he was really worried about how quickly Franz Ferdinand's second album disappeared from the mainstream audience after it came out. I think part of his fears were not wanting to make the same record twice and have it flop, so he took the band in a completely different direction.
I think they shifted from the faux-new wave scene to more of a straightforward rock scene, and I personally thing they pulled it off pretty well.Comment

Re: The Killers - Sam's Town
I basically listened to this cd all day long on my iPod and I can't seem to stop. I'm not feeling My List or Why Do I Keep Counting, but I'm also far from disappointed with the album as I initially thought I was going to be. Then there's songs like For Reasons Unknown and The River is Wild that start out a little mediocre and sound really cool after a few verses. The rest still has that unique sound that I love about the Killers, even if it's evolved a bit.Comment
