I hate Directv DVR +

Is it me or does this suck? Directv don't sell tivo anymore and sells its own. The fast forwarding is ridiculous (on 1-2-3 it's too slow and on 4 too fast). Then you can't switch tuners. For example:

Sunday afternoon I'm watching two games at same time.

Directv Tivo I used to have: I can pause and switch to other tuner and then go back and it still be paused.

Directv DVR +: I don't even know how to change tuners


Directv Tivo: I'm watching a recorded program so that I can fast forward the commercials of a certain show. I pause the live show and when i go to that program it's still paused.

Directv DVR+: I pause it, but then when I go back, the damn thing is live.



If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. I've had it for 3 days and have even read the damn manual. I was messing with the Rutgers-SFla game today and i can't figure it out.

mine just broke, wont record at all now, dtv says i gotta pay $75 just to get someone out to look at it. awesome!

Lay into them on the phone, they know they have defective boxes and are doing little if nothing to remedy the issue. Call it a hunch, there will be a class action lawsuit within 2 years. (Even if I file the thing myself the day I pass the Bar Exam).

I'm just glad I bought 3 DirecTV Tivo units when I first got DirecTV, my kid has his own recording list, wife hers, and me mine.

Great question Massnole, honestly I'm not sure. I know that they support my three units, hell, they even replaced one recently with another Tivo DirecTV Unit! So I know that suppliers still have them and service them.

You probably, to be safe, ought to call DirecTV and ask them if they will support a DirecTV Tivo unit bought from someone else (dont mention the EBAY thing).

Thanks for the quick response. I will look into this in the near future. They've already replaced one box, and they knew they should've replaced the second, but the guy who owns the local service center is a tyrant.

The guy who installed my units was fired, so I am questioning if something else wasn't done wrong, he didn't seem to know too much about the units or installation.

Sounds tough bro, sounds like a bit of foul play. Try calling DirecTV and notify them of the service center near you. Tell them you want someone else, I'm guessing they will do what you wish and get you what you need to keep you as a customer bro.

That is a good idea, but I am in Western MA and these people are already coming from Eastern MA as it is, so I am sadly stuck. The service guy noted the box should be replaced the second time, I just need to call, I probably will this week.

There's nothing you can do about it right now, MFL. The new HD DVR's don't have the dual live buffers. It's something they may be able to add in a future software download, but the jury is out on that right now.

For me personally, it isn't a big deal, as I don't ever need to hop back and forth on two live shows. If there is anything on in a given time slot that I may want to watch that conflicts with something I am already watching, I just record it and watch it later. For people like you it must really suck, though.

I just picked up the directv hr20 Hd-dvr. and let me tell you, they have a long way to go before they can match the greatness of the Hd-tivo.

While they are going to install the new 5-lnb dish and professionaly install the hr-20 ( for free if you call retention and complain ), I wish they still sold the hd-tivo. but from what i hear they will stop supporting this once they truly go to mpeg-4.

While i have had the unit for a couple days there are already numerous problems that i have found. I cannot access the antenna input for it is not supported yet. I have to wait for a software download for that ( who knows when ). Scheduled CSI to record last week and although it said it recoreded, it didn't. Numerous times i have had to reset the unit.

From what they tell me, once i have had it professionally installed with the new 5-lnb dish, i will be able to record or watch 2 programs at once. We shall see and I will keep you guys posted.
