I have a niece who will be 4 next month. I'd really like to get her a good 'toy' that she'll be able to use for a year or two and will learn a lot from it. I don't have kids so no idea what to get or where to even start. I've heard of the Leapfrog stuff but that's about all I've heard about for kids that age. I'd like to stay under $125-$150 if possible.

Another simple educational toy are the Duplo blocks, which are big Lego-like pieces. Fosters creativity and all that stuff. The wooden puzzles (from "Melissa & Doug") and early boardgames are also fun.

Wow...120 bucks...this isnt a toy, but the Einstein DVD's, CD's, and VHS are really good for just putting on the TV while you do stuff around the house. Both my boys would look at the screen for at least 20 minutes. Parents of little ones know how valuable 20 minutes can be.Comment
