As much as I want to give the cliche Atlanta "Dale Murphy" answer, I entered my baseball watching prime in his later days with the Braves. Instead, I'll go with Chipper. J.D. Drew is probably a very close second, with Mark DeRosa and Jeff Francoeur being an even closer third and forth.

There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For Dear old Nebraska U!
Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05Comment

Re: Your Favorite Athlete of all time!
Can't believe nobody has mentioned him yet:
Pedro Martinez
When he went on the mound during his prime, it was an event. It is incredible that such a little guy could ever throw the ball with such velocity AND precision. All of the elements that people hated about Pedro made me love him. His unmatchable skills combined with his gigantic ego, arrogance, and cockiness was just something to admire. He's the kind of guy you love to have on your side.Comment

Re: Your Favorite Athlete of all time!
Just one of those styles of player that I have always loved. Tough, hard-nosed utility player who is just a natural athlete. In hindsight, I would probably even put him slightly ahead of Drew and a half-step behind Chip.Comment

George Brett easily for me. One of my favorite athletes growing up and am still happy he is with the Royals.Comment

Re: Your Favorite Athlete of all time!
It was really disappointing the way he ended his career. But a great guy and real proffesional“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. I remember you saying you were once a big fan, but considering recent history I definitely didn't expect him to be your #1. Also surprised you didn't mention Giles...
Anyway, here's my top 4:
1. John Smoltz
2. Tom Glavine
3. Greg Maddux
4. Julio Franco
(I didn't include Murphy for the same reason as BGarrett)Comment
