    CPU Storage Question - Internal/external HD's

I'm starting to run out of disk space on my laptop as its approaching its 5th birthday. With all the mp3's and other various files i have on there, I am quickly running out of room. I've been in the market for an external hard drive, anybody have any suggestions?

I've also started looking at internal as they are much less expensive. What would the process be like putting that into my dell laptop? Is there an extra slot in there or would the new drive have to replace the one that's already in there? If so, do I lose everything? Thanks for the help.

With a laptop, I think the easiest thing to do is buy a normal 3.5" internal harddrive and then separately buy a external casing for it (you can get them around $20). It can just connect by USB or firewire or something.

For a laptop, I would suggest a USB hard drive. Just plug it in and you are good to go.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was leaning towards. Now most of the ones I'm looking at are USB 2.0, my ghetto a$$ laptop is still 1.1 or whatever it was. Will they still work? Is there a way to update the USB drive to 2.0?

Do you have one of those slots on the side of your laptop? A PCMCIA slot. They make cards that slide into that slot that have USB 2.0 and firewire connections on them. You probably have one, I have an old laptop that is USB 1.1 and that's what I use. Like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815108105

Only problem is if you are already using that slot for a wireless card, like I am. I just swap them out when I need the USB part.
