iTunes 7 has destroyed my iPod

I have a iPod Mini and ever since I downloaded iTunes 7 I've had a few problems.

The new iTunes won't let me restore my iPod back to its original settings. When I try to do it I get an error message that says the iPod couldn't be restored "An unknown error occurred (1428)."

Another problem is that I have no songs/podcasts on my Mini but it says I only have 16.1 MB of free space. I've already re-stalled iTunes and resetted the iPod itself.

    Nothing seems to work.

Anybody know how to solve this problem?

I feel like throwing my iPod against the wall right now.

    Hey Asianflow,

I have read on other boards that other people are having similar problems with ITunes7, I can't speak from experience but maybe this link will help:

      Thanks for the link.

I posted on another section of the Apple forum but nobody has an answer.

It looks like there's a flaw in the new iTunes.

I'll try to go back to iTunes 6 and hopefully I get my storage space back on my iPod. As of right now, I only have enough room to load 3 songs on my iPod.

Neither have I. But I did have the same problem as asianflow with the previous version.

So asianflow, there's nothing you can do. It's telling you there's 16.1 MB left beacuse it's screwed. All you can do is restore the factory settings on the iPod itself. Hope you backed everything up.

I haven't had any problems yet either, other than songs ocassionally sounding like they're underwater (In iTunes, not the Ipod itself). I guess the new iTunes takes up a lot more system resources than the previous version did to where if you try to do anything else while you're playing a song, it can have problems. I just got the 80GB Video Ipod and it's working great.

There's an update out....ver. 7.0.1. Do you have it? If not, d/l it and see if it fixes things. Apple heard about all the unhappiness and pushed out this update pretty quickly.

Re: iTunes 7 has destroyed my iPod

I dl the latest update and it didn't correct my problem. It still didn't let me restore my iPod.

I eventually deleted the latest iTunes and re-installed my original old iTunes that came with the disc. I was finally able to restore my iPod back to factory settings. I noticed there was still 20MB of space that was used up even though I didn't have any songs/podcasts on it.

My iPod Mini is suppose to be 4Gigs, but it's currently at 3.77Gigs. Is it natural for an iPod to lose capacity space as it gets older?

No, it doesnt start right at 4 MB. Instead, it has its own OS that runs the iPod...thats why it only has 3.77 GB.

                    Sorry the update didnt help...
