Adding a Printer to a Wireless network
Question, I currently have an HP printer that is connected to my wireless router via an ethernet cable..........If I were to get a lab top that has a wireless card, would I be able to print to the printer without wirelessly ?? Or do I need to have one of those Print Servers ??My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Adding a Printer to a Wireless network
Is the printer configured for DHCP?
If so, just add it as an IP printer. When you add it, choose Local printer -> uncheck automatically detect -> Create New Port -> Choose Standard TCP/IP from the drop down -> enter the IP address in the Printer Name or IP Address field. You'll then need to install the driver, etc. -

I am not sure if the printer is configured for DHCP. Its a Photosmart 2610. How do you configure a printer for DHCP ?My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Adding a Printer to a Wireless network
Depends on the printer. It doesn't technically need to be DHCP, just needs to be configured with an IP address on your router.Comment

Re: Adding a Printer to a Wireless network
gotcha. Going to set up a wireless network at my sisters house and they wanted to be able to print from their labtop (anywhere in the house) to a printer connected to a wireless router. I guess any of the "network printers" that have an ethernet attatchment can be configured to work ????My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Adding a Printer to a Wireless network
In my place, I have my desktop with the printer hooked into it. And then my desktop has my wireless router on it. If you go into the Network Connections (I think) and set up the printer as being allowed to share, you can just do it that way, and then add the printer onto the laptop.
I can't recall how exactly I did it as I'm at work now, but it was a lot simpler then doing the DCHP thing..........
The only prob is that my desktop has to be turned on in order to print, but it usually is anyway.Comment
