It's very interesting that most posters on here that found The Exorcist scary as hell were young when the movie came out. Seems like the younger OS'ers didn't get the full effect of it.

What's even funnier is some of these same guys think the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre was scary. Yet to me and most people I know it wasn't at all.

I gotta say though of the newer movies I did think the Grudge was scary. My wife almost made me leave the theatre.

Being young when a movie is out does have something to do with it for sure. But the excorcise freaks me out cuz it's demonic possession and not super hoakey. I can deal with bloody goalie masks, but the devil stuff freaks me out more. But I went to a Catholic school, so that might have someting to do with it.

See that happened a whole generation earlier with Poltergeist. "They're here"...

That movie still scares the crap out of my wife. I think it's cheesy, but she was little when she saw it. And c'mon, no one can deny the frickin' clown underneath the bed during the rainstorm? THAT was scary!

It freaked me out...but I haven't seen the original so I have nothing to compare it too.

I do plan on renting a few horror movies today though, and watching them while it's sunny out.

NO CONTEST! IT is the scariest damn movie I've ever seen..and it was a MADE FOR TV Stephen King movie.

I was in 7th grade and literally wept in fear at the thought of that DAMN CLOWN!!

Honorable mention goes to IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS and that freaky old man on the bicycle riding down a deserted road late at night.

So the lesson to be learned...nothing is more terrifying than Clowns and Freaky looking Old People.

OH...and Salem's Lot when the kid floats up and starts scratching at his buddy's window. YIKES!

The Exorcist...... I couldn't even stand being around the paperback we had around the house. Hated when they'd show the 25th anniversary promo a few years back. Scene whereby she's walking backwards down the stairs like a spider.... freakazoid! Won't watch Emily Rose because of this movie. (Barely got myself to wathc Stigmata because of The Exorcist as well, but it turned out to be a different movie of sorts.)

The best part of The Exorcist....

The novel version of The Exorcist is very good too...just as freaky if not more than the movie.

The Exorcist is the scariest movie I've ever seen, with The Eye coming-in second.

The Changeling & & The Sentinel were very well done also.

Let's see...probably The Ring, Blair Witch Project, and for some reason NIghtmare on Elm Street scared the crap out of me. I couldn't go to sleep for about 3 nights after watching it when I was little.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose isn't near the same level of The Exorcist, which is clearly the overwhelming choice of the public as the scariest movie ever made, but I will say there are a few scenes in that movie which still reside in my mind as being immensely terrifying. I have seen it once and would like to see it again but i'm too much of a fradey cat to....

The only part of Emily Rose that freaked me out was when she was at a college and that guy was laying with her in bed and then he wakes up, she isn't there. He turns around...and she's laying there in a frozen state with her mouth wide open and her eyes bugged out of her skull. Oh...my...God lol.

In fact that entire scene where she first encounters the demon at college is creepy as hell.

Yeah that first scene where she wakes up at 3am or whatever and encounters the demon is i think the scariest part, then the frozen state thing is second scariest, i was like...WTF...dude...

Naw the scary or disturbing part is when she "forcefully" masterbates with the cruxifix I was like what the hell????????
