EB & GAMESTOP lying about PS3 reserves?...
word has it that EB and Gamestop are tell customers that they're filled for their reserves on the ps3. well, i called my local game crazy and they said they're lying. Sony is not allowing reserves for the ps3. basically, first come first serve. this is going to be nuts if so. i can see the 11 oclock news scattered with fights at all different locations. why would sony do this?...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...Tags: None -

it's funny, because i called back and the guy an gamecrazy had a totally different tone in his voice. slurrying and stuttering over his words...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" Re: EB & GAMESTOP lying about PS3 reserves?...
Sony gives them a number to sell, and they fill the orders. It's pretty simple. They have nothing to gain from lying. At most, their numbers might be smaller than what they'll eventually get just to be cautious and avoid a fiasco like that with the 360, where more pre-orders were made than systems available at some stores. Given the limited release of the PS3 and the numbers I'm hearing, that seems unlikely.Comment

Possible that Sony left GameCrazy (and others) out in the cold as maybe EB ponied up some dough to be the only stores to get guaranteed units, therefore the only store 100% sure that they could do reserves.Comment

Almost nothing. The money is made from the games and gear. That's why I think the companies that have the best attach rates will see replinshments sooner than those that have poor attach rates. AR=games and accessories.
As for the OT, that is such BS. Sony sells x amount of systems to each retailer that ponies up the money. It is then up to the individual retailer on how to go about dispersing that amount. In case of a manufacturer cutback or delay though, the systems are not guaranteed on launch and I would imagine that not all of the allocation was put up for reserve, so they could remain cautious yet confident that the reserves that were taken can be filled on launch day.
Besides, Sony is not going to bite the hands that feed them. EB/Gamestop moved the initial allocations of the PSP while the Targets and Wal-Marts just sat on them. Since GS/EB has the largest marketshare, Sony is not going to tell them what to do with their allotment.
Gamecrazy has been going through some financial troubles and actually put a hiring freeze on at one point so that one person may be trying to swing business to their store instead of the competition.S.O.S Crew

Joystiq had a article a few weeks ago saying that GS/EB were in talks with Sony to get 90% of the initial allocation. Have not seen anything since though so I have no idea how the final breakdown is, or if it's even been finalized with Sony and the other retailers not named GS/EB.S.O.S Crew
