The Sports and Entertainment Blasphemy Thread

This is for fun only, no personal attacks plz.

This thread is for saying what you think needs to be said. About what? Well anything in entertainment or sports that most people probably will disagree strongly with you. Like what? Well for example, Michael Jordan is/was over rated because.....make a good point. Or Grand Theft Auto sucks, or a band, movie, TV Show that you have no idea how anybody likes.

Great thread idea. I'll start it off...

Tom Brady is the most overrated player in football. He's not very accurate, he can't throw a deep ball to save his live. He's made his living off dink and dunk passing, a great defense, a great coaching staff and lots of home field advantage in the playoffs but will still go down as one of the best QB's in history.

Either that, or I just can't stand him because of all the Brady ball washing that I have to listen to in New England.

First off, great topic. I'm sure this will lead to some classic, heated debates.

Anyway, as for Brady I couldn't have said it better myself. He's the absolute perfect fit for Charlie Weiss' system but I doubt he'd be anything special on another team. He can make good reads and on occassion he throws the deep ball well, but it also doesn't help him that he always has 5'10" WR's running those deep routes. He uses his check-down options a ton (which is a good thing, you can't really knock a QB for making a smart/safe throw). Overall, I think Manning is easily the better QB.

I don't really have a favorite NFL team (I loved the Dolphins when Marino played but since he hung up his cleats I stopped paying attention) and I watched Brady a ton during my four years at college outside of Boston ('01-'05) with a pretty objective POV.

It's also why Brady Quinn suddenly shot up from a 50% "so-so" QB at ND his first two years then turned to an absolute stud. That's all because of Weiss.

I have similar feelings towards Big Ben. He finally has his first good game of the season yesterday, and it's no coincidence it comes when he only has to throw 19 times and the Steelers destroy the Chiefs on the ground.

On that note, I think Warrick Dunn is the most underrated player in the NFL. Here is a guy who has had four 1,000 yard seasons, including 1,400 last year and is on pace for 1,600 yards this year.

Dunn is a great team player, does a tremendous amount of preparation and helps his team win. He isn't even considered the best player on his team, which is a huge oversight. Not only does Vick belong in the overrated section, but without an effictive runner like Dunn, he would be wholly inefficient.

He is a former Rookie of the Year and was a great player at FSU. Yet he is overlooked by every "analyst" because he doesn't open his mouth or shoot people.

It is a shame that a player like Dunn (who donates a house to one single mother every year) isn't the darling of the NFL and the media. Instead we get T.O. or Ray Lewis running their mouth, doing stupid things oversaturating peoples lives.

Re: The Sports and Entertainment Blasphemy Thread

Michael Vick is overrated....My argument is here:

Michael Vick is a great QB when things are going well for him but when things aren't going well for him he struggles (which is understandable) but he has never made the adjustments needed to "man up" and lead a comeback.

As evidence let's look at Vick's playoff wins and losses.

Michael Vick is a great QB when things are going well for him but when things aren't going well for him he struggles (which is understandable) but he has never made the adjustments needed to "man up" and lead a comeback.

              ATL 27
              GB 7

The Falcons jump out to an early lead and Vick cruises to victory.

              ATL 6
              PHI 20

The Eagles jump out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and more or less contains Vick and the Falcons.

              STL 17
              ATL 47

Again, the Falcons have the lead and at the end of the 1st half have a 28-17 lead. The Falcons never trailed in the game.

              PHI 27
              ATL 10

Again, the Falcons fall behind, never gain a lead and Vick is contained.

My point in all this is that Michael Vick can't handle the pressure of adversity. I'm not talking about pressure in "hype" situations. I'm talking actual game situations where he has to make reads, throws or use his feet at the RIGHT time.

                  What about the Minnesota game?

And I figured my Seinfeld comment would spark some discussion.

You're supposed to defend your argument though. Not just make a ridiculous claim like that and wait to be flamed.

                          Fine, fine.

There is absolutely no humor in the show. Maybe the thing people find so great is the fact that the lead actor has no personality what-so-ever, his jokes are all lame, and his voice is monotone funny. Or maybe people find Kramer funny...or even George. I don't find any of those characters funny what-so-ever.

The worst part? The female(I don't even know her name) isn't even that hot, so she can't even make up for the lack of entertainment from the other 3 lead characters.

I tried to watch an episode the other day...where George quits and then tries to "un-quit" by just walknig back into the board meeting, and the whole laundry "don't mix your guys with my guys" BS.

                          Bad show.

Wow....I think you might be on your own on this one. I personally find the show hilarious and think it's one of the better comedies in recent times. I watch a lot of classic TV (Dick Van D*ke, Mary Tyler Moore, other classic sitcoms) and Seinfeld definitely ranks up with the best of them. The old shows were classics because they featured very well-crafted characters who got into ridiculous, yet everyday, situations. Seinfeld succeeds for the same reasons.

Too many sitcoms these days rely on relatively cheap humor and aren't very well written at all. But the way characters and storylines on Seinfeld weave together from episode to episode and season to season are really well thought out by the writers. But most of the appeal lies in the characters and most people agree that Elaine, George, and Kramer (and all the little side characters) make up one of the best comedy troupes of all time.

Humor is a taste issue and not everybody finds the same things funny. But speaking from a writing and creativity standpoint, Seinfeld is truly one of the best comedies of all time.

Jerry never made the show. It's the supporting cast they made it what it is. The show is made to relate to situations in everyday life. By keeping it simple it was great. You might hate the show and not like anyone but not to like Kramer is just....

As far as Elaine. I think she is pretty hot. In the older episodes no but in the later ones yes.

The episode you are referring to was okay. It was first season and like third or fourth episode. Show was pretty good through season 2 but really picked up after that.
