I'll never understand this "street cred"/"Gangsta lifestyle" for as long as I live but it's beyond stupid.

Even though that has nothing to do with this I will try to help you understand. Some people go along with this street cred **** because they come up with an image that if they don't maintain they will be found out for the frauds that they are and won't sell. Who are you more willing to listen to, someone who actually went through what they're talking about or an actor? Not every rapper is like that but for the ones who want to reach out to the wannabe thugs and gangsters they come up with a front and sometimes they have to do things to keep that up.

It does seem like more violence happens to people involved in the rap industry. I don't see people like Clay Aiken, Ashlee Simpson, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, John Mayer, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, etc... getting jacked or shot at.
