Im pretty sure that gmail will send you an invite as a text message to your phone. I know they did at one time but not sure if theyre still doing it or not.

1. do you get something if you give out all your invitations?
2. when I signed up yesterday, i saw something about downloading something to your desktop that you will get a notification that pops up saying you have gmail. does anybody know where I can find this? or do i have to download google desktop?

I use Google Talk for IMing some of my family, it has a new mail notifier. But if you dont' want that, just download the notifier here: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/not...r_windows.html
