Flags of Our Fathers....
Anybody going to go see this? I haven't been this pumped for a movie in a long time...I think it will be an instant classic IMO, just because I'm a huge world war 2 buff..so is anyone else pumped about this movie. There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For Dear old Nebraska U!

Re: Flags of Our Fathers....
This is one of those movies that shows potential to be a good MOVIE but is prolly little more than US propaganda--its like, ok hollywood, we get it, the war is needed...PSN: Peji911 -

I'm sure it will be jingoism at its finest....but that doesn't mean it won't be entertaining."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Re: Flags of Our Fathers....
The movie follows the war bond tour of several of the soldiers after Iwo so the battle itself is not a majority of the movie. The war bond tour is ripe ground for exposing some facades.
In case that's not even handed enough, there's also a 2nd film from the Japanese perspective to follow shortly after Flags. Letters from Iwo Jima I believe is the name.Comment

Actually if you caught the Parade artice on Eastwood, he said he made this fil to show how war is never a good thing.Comment

Re: Flags of Our Fathers....
Saw the movie last night. I'm honestly not sure what to say about it. I liked a lot of things but think they could have done others better. I had the advantage of reading the book beforehand, which was a big help. I definitely want to see it again.
Good:
- it followed the book very closely and gave the true story about the flag raising and the war bonds tour.
- battle scenes were very well done.
- well acted
Could have been better:
- Development of characters. You really only see Doc, Ira and Rene. Mike had a good amount of scenes as well but you don't see much of Franklin or Harlon. You also don't get to see a lot of the other important characters from the book.
- Development of Doc and Iggy's relationship.
- While the battle scenes were brutal, I don't think they conveyed how devastating the battle of Iwo Jima was. Almost all of the 22,000 Japanese defenders were killed and the Marines suffered almost 27,000 casualties, nearly 7,000 dead.Comment

Re: Flags of Our Fathers....
Good, not great movie. Did anyone else think thta the battle scenes wernt as intense as they thought they would be. I dunno, they were very well done, it just seems like they could've make them more brutal to show how devastating the battle was.Comment
